I got this from a buddy by e-mail and thought Id share it with ya all;

Gun control

Historical results of gun control Whether you agree or not, it's an interesting lesson in history. Something to think about... In 1929, the Soviet Union established gun control. From 1929 to 1953, about 20 million dissidents, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.

In 1911, Turkey established gun control. From 1915 to 1917, 1.5 million Armenians, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.

Germany established gun control in 1938 and from 1939 to 1945, 13 million Jews and others who were unable to defend themselves were rounded up and exterminated.

China established gun control in 1935. From 1948 to 1952, 20 million political dissidents, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.

Guatemala established gun control in 1964. From 1964 to 1981, 100,000 Mayan Indians, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.

Uganda established gun control in 1970. From 1971 to 1979, 300,000 Christians, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.

Cambodia established gun control in 1956. From 1975 to 1977, one million 'educated' people, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.

Defenseless people rounded up and exterminated in the 20th Century because of gun control: 56 million.

It has now been 12 months since gun owners in Australia were forced by new law to surrender 640,381 personal firearms to be destroyed by their own government, a program costing Australia taxpayers more than $500 million dollars. The first year results are now in: Australia-wide, homicides are up 3.2 percent Australia-wide, assaults are up 8.6 percent Australia-wide, armed robberies are up 44 percent (yes, 44 percent!) In the state of Victoria alone, homicides with firearms are now up 300 percent. (Note that while the law-abiding citizens turned them in, the criminals did not, and criminals still possess their guns!) While figures over the previous 25 years showed a steady decrease in armed robbery with firearms, this has changed drastically upward in the past 12 months, since the criminals now are guaranteed that their prey is unarmed. There has also been a dramatic increase in break-ins and assaults of the ELDERLY. Australian politicians are at a loss to explain how public safety has decreased, after such monumental effort and expense was expended in "successfully ridding Australian society of guns."

The Australian experience and the other historical facts above prove it.

You won't see this data on the American evening news or hear our president, governors or other politicians disseminating this information.

Guns in the hands of honest citizens save lives and property and, yes, gun-control laws affect only the law-abiding citizens.

Take note my fellow Americans.....before it's too late!

The next time someone talks in favor of gun control, please remind them of this history lesson.

With guns, we are citizens. Without them, we are subjects.

unfortunately reason, logic, and fact cannot dissuade the antis from their position. I'm afraid it will take a massive event (foreign invasion, etc.) to make them realize the error of their ways.

Logic and reason have nothing to do with the position of the antis - it is emotional. Freud (not someone I normally quote) indicated that a fear of guns indicated that the person in question had a retarded sexuality. I just think that they are immature as Hell, and don't want to take responsibility for anything themselves - just let Daddy (the government) do it. The irony of being anti-gun for ordinary citizens, and then calling a bunch of people with guns (the police or the armed forces) when you or your country get in trouble with the BG's never ceases to bring a smile to my face.

As for the subject article, it seems like the Dems are going to cut their throats again with the AWB. There is no way to stir up gun owners like telling them that your going to ban even more guns. I will say, however, that Bush will lose my vote if he signs ANY bill that reauthorizes or expands the AWB; it ain't just the Dems that have to worry about this issue.

The anti-Second Amendment bigots in the United States would be glad to slaughter the millions of Americans who disagree with them. They're just waiting for the American Stalin, Hitler, Mao, or Pol Pot to emerge from obscurity.

The absolute and to me incontavertibly consistent factor is .. and always will be ''CONTROL''.

And on the subject of control let me repeat a quote posted the other day by Dave3006 ...... just to remind folks how easily it can be implemented ......

Ayn Rand .......
"Did you really think we want those laws observed?" said Dr. Ferris. "We want them to be broken. You'd better get it straight that it's not a bunch of boy scouts you're up against... We're after power and we mean it... There's no way to rule innocent men. The only power any government has is the power to crack down on criminals. Well, when there aren't enough criminals one makes them. One declares so many things to be a crime that it becomes impossible for men to live without breaking laws. Who wants a nation of law-abiding citizens? What's there in that for anyone? But just pass the kind of laws that can neither be observed nor enforced or objectively interpreted – and you create a nation of law-breakers – and then you cash in on guilt. Now that's the system, Mr. Reardon, that's the game, and once you understand it, you'll be much easier to deal with."

I'm FOR gun control....Being able to hit my target with every round!

Now ducking and running, while installing asbestos bloomers :D :D :D

Sounds like a good slogan to use next time a gun bill comes up for public approval:

Amendment/question xxyy:
"It's not about GUNS.
It's about CONTROL."

Fits on a bumper sticker, too. And of course there's the generic version:

GUN CONTROL:
"It's not about GUNS.
It's about CONTROL."
