I wish I could take the credit for it but the stock was like that when I got it...haven't had the courage to put it in boiling water.

it's a non-refurbished tula sks, apparently part of Ukraine stock that is being resold across Europe - it was covered in a thick layer of cosmoline which I think is what preserved it so well.

Ok I think I should play :

How is it that poeple in outside the US have more firearms freedoms than I do? I always thought it was illegal to have anything semi auto; let alone any tactical firearm. Damn East coast liberals :cuss:

Wait, you thought all countries other than the U.S. had the same firearms laws(??)

Maybe because we just had two world wars on our soil and I'll be there to explain my point of view if a third starts.

Don't worry, Switzerland is one of the last country in Europe with a gun-friendly law ( I mean, you don't need to be part of a shooting club, or something like that to own a weapon ). Switzerland had a long tradition of mercenaries and soldiers during the Middle-Age, but now it's over. And believe me, the europeans are working hard to change that...

Wait, you thought all countries other than the U.S. had the same firearms laws(??)

I thought they were more or less the same with minor differences, but very restrictive compared with the US all together. I thought you couldn't have anything except a firearm for hunting and nothing tactical except in the States. I know Britain and Germany have pretty strict firearms laws and figured the rest of Europe was the same. The exceptions being even stricter laws like in Australia that banned semi auto all together. I figured you could have semi auto in Europe but only 5 rounds and with a hunting license and a permit.

And I also thought that firearms ownership was pretty much an American thing. I'm glad I'm wrong. I got the idea from a GQ article I read once years that opined how silly American firearms are, compared with the rest of the world; and our "love affair" with firearms and all other anti crap. Lying sacks of . . .

Czech Republic is more liberal than Switzerland when it comes to firearms and they have also kept ccw which (unfortunately) the Swiss have lost that right quite a number of years ago, lost the right to keep service ammunition at home and then the referendum to revoke the service weapon from the household.

I don't think it is a coincidence either that they are to a large extent anti-EU despite having joined it - Czech Republic that is.

For Luxembourg, I can buy anything above so long as it is recorded on a license and have the paperwork, I'm actually surprised you have moderators, thought they were illegal for use in Switzerland or near impossible to get a permit unless pre '99 ( I think  )

I find it extremely ironic that Europe has had two world wars on its soil with countless millions dead but firearms ownership among civilians is frowned upon by socialist/left governments and restrictions get worse every year - e.g. 2-3 weeks ago the Irish government effectively banned fullbore handguns from civilian use.

While I firmly believe the prospects of conflict in Europe are extremely low nobody knows what can happen - I mean our entire financial system was close to a complete collapse last September, think of the chaos that would have caused :what:

and to get back on topic, apologies for the rant

I just find it disheartening to witness this European wide belief in collective security and a acceptance to throw traditions aside for the greater good (integration) of European countries. There is strength in diversity rather than this USSR (i.e. E.U.) collective good non-sense.

Both the Nice & Lisbon treaty is proof the institution being created is anything but democratic.

spin off thread?

Would anyone be interested in starting a thread with a list of countries represented and a general overview of local gun laws (especially laws pertaining to "non-citizens" :D ). Of course I imagine this could be difficult... sometimes I get confused about which states allow what for who. So maybe the country and a link to a website containing laws? For the US a link to the opencarry maps would be helpful, albeit unofficial.

I read through this thread (very impressed, friends, very impressed) and thought about summarizing what was already posted for UK, Croatia etc... but I thought that would end up being more of an opportunity to put my foot in my mouth then facilitate info sharing.

Any one want to get that started with their country top of the list?

The Swiss posters seem to have a lot more American guns than I do. Send those American guns back to the US, where they belong... with me.:)

On a separate note, I talked to a couple from the Czech Republic, and they thought I was weird for owning guns here in the US.
