I finally got the new recoil springs from Wolff,
(one in the pistol, one spare) and adjusted the extractor tension. Now this little horse runs like a champ. I could not make it malfunction. I fed it 230 gr factory ball ammo, 230 hollowpoints, 230 gr RNL reloads, 200 gr SWCs @ nearly full power AND some target level 200 SWCs (3.8 BE).
No malfunctions. (Okay, the 3.8 target ammo ejection was not very vigorous, but eject and function it did.) It also was ringing the 8" gong at 50 yards regularly with my elderly eyes (no rest, just two hands). SO! it's a nice reliable pistol now and it can go back to its owner and I'll have a clear conscience. It's trigger still sucks but thats a series 80 Colt that has not been reworked. Lots of little pieces moving around in there causing mushy feeling trigger.
It is now a pistol that I would be happy to own.
