Make sure that everyone you know sees that not every Parkland student wants to ban firearms because of one crazed murderer who used a firearm after the local schools, LE and community failed to put the murderer on the prohibited list.

Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School student Kyle Kashuv, 16, spoke with The Daily Signal’s Rachel del Guidice about the media blackout of his conservative views in the aftermath of the Parkland, Florida, shooting. Kashuv appeared at the White House’s Generation Next forum for millennials Thursday. An edited transcript of his Daily Signal interview is below.

Rachel del Guidice: We have seen survivors from the shooting speak out. You are kind of a countervoice. Has there been any media blackout on what you’ve been doing, and why do you think that is?

Kyle Kashuv: There’s definitely a media blackout. Everything that isn’t Fox News doesn’t agree with my agenda practically and they haven’t been reaching out. I was supposed to have a CNN interview yesterday, but that got canceled. There’s a clear media blackout for people that don’t have the same agenda as the news organization.

Del Guidice: You’ve met with a couple of different lawmakers on both sides of the aisle. You met with the president and with senators. Do you think that we’re going to have comprehensive reform, and how do you feel you’ve been able to contribute?

Americans need an alternative to the mainstream media. But this can't be done alone. Find out how you can support the efforts of The Daily Signal >>

Kashuv: Every lawmaker I met with truly cares about this issue passionately—about making sure that school shootings are a thing of the past and everyone is, practically the Republicans mostly, really don’t want this to ever happen again.

The Democrats more so want to talk about gun control. But right now I’ve really seen that with the STOP School Violence Act, that’s had bipartisan support across the aisle and almost passed in the House.

Del Guidice: What is your message to young people who are like you, who are pro-Second Amendment but feel like they’re being silenced on their campuses because their message isn’t what the media wants to hear?

Kashuv: I’ve had a bunch of people reach out to be in Twitter DMs, telling me they’re being silenced at their school.

My biggest word of advice is to keep on going. Don’t let anyone silence you and don’t give in to the criticism that you get.

Bullsh*t. That's not how this works. No one has to leave, they can stay and fight for whatever they believe in that's how democracy works. If someone doesn't like the laws then they elect people to change them. Even the constitution can be ammended.

The problem with that approach is that once a law is passed, either at the state or federal level, it's virtually impossible to get it repealed. Even an ineffective law will remain on the books for years; establishing a norm. The longer a 'bad' law exists the more likely it will be used as a basis for additional bad legislation. California is a good example of this incrementalism.

Bad laws need to be stopped before they take root. Once the fight is lost sometimes leaving is the only solution. Remember it was bad British laws that drove our founding fathers out of that country.

This is an ideological war, a culture war. Any time there are two contrary ideologies and cultures in significant numbers occupying the same country, one will eventually dominate the other. By consent, changes in numbers, political conquest - or force.

They only got 1252 done.
And, there's an excellent argument that number is 1249 too many.
One of those 1252 makes it illegal to make more than 2 keystrokes on a digital device while driving. Been in effect since 1 Sept 2017. Notice any change in people driving & texting? Neither have I.
Oh yes, I am particularly jaded and cynical, and flat-out glad that they ae only allowed to sit 140 days every two years. (And, that's easily 100 days longer than service workers in Austin ought do without tips, too.)

The last study I saw--and that was back around 2004--spent 10 years totaling it all up, on average, the average American is subject to between 8000 and 10,000 laws, ordinances, rules, and regulations. I, personally, have about another 800-900 of those relating to professional practice. Until not so very long ago, I also had all the chapters of the UCMJ to live under as well.

We, as gun owners have--since 1968--an onus to always prove ourselves entirely crime-free, to have obeyed all, every, extant law. Or face loss of rights, property, even freedom. This is heavy burden by nearly any measure. We should have a right to demand, to insist, or legislators act in ways that more than meet "reasonable man" standards.
