Found a 3 screw Single Six today for $329...

The good:
It has not been sent back to Ruger
It has both cylinder's
It looks clean, no signs of previous rust or pitting, nice and solid

The bad:
It has been reblued. The frame and barrel are matte blued finish. Doesn't look bad, just not factory original..

What do you all think? I always keep my eye out for nice old revolvers, but I am on the fence about this one.. I have it on hold for a few days to "sleep on it"

Seems the question is...are you purchasing it for collector value ...or because you like the revolver and want to have one?

If you want it as a collector it doesn't sound like a good purchase.

If you like the 3 screw Single Six (And who doesn't? :D) then buy it!

Yeah, I guess my motives are a little vague.. ;)

I have not looked for a 3 screw SS so I'm curious if it's a good price for a nice solid one. Looking at gunbroker tells me it's maybe a decent, not great price..

Sounds kind of high for a shooter, I think you could find one that hadn't been reblued for the same amount. But, on the other hand, $329 is not that much to pay for a gun of that quality!

why do you think its reblued??
I bought a 1980 made super single 6 with box & papers a few years ago.
It has a matt blue finish on the steel parts, and black paint/ coating like a 10/22 on the aluminum grip frame.

If its mat thats probably the original finish.

he states the barrel is matte finish. I would have to believe it is a roug reblue jos as the ol models all came with nice clear deep bluing on the barrel. if it was just the frame with a matte finish then it could be original as the 3rd and 4th variation had a duller finish on the frame.

I have seen and fired quite a number of single sixes, and yes they are blued, but its not a high polished blue, like they put on old super blackhawks, or new vaquerros (the frame on the XR-3)
Technically I guess its not really mat but a Brushed blue finish.

Here is an old model on Gun broker note the mat/ Brushed blue on it.

Sounds quite highly priced to me. Especialy for a re-blued gun.

I would imagine that a similiar gun in my area would sell for $200-$275.

Thanks for the info guys, I think I'm going to pass on this one.

It is definitely a reblue job as there are a couple of small spots on the frame and barrel where you can see the original polished finish.

Also, should clarify that I am speaking of the frame and barrel, not the grip frame.

Thanks!

I'd pass on it even if it was factory finish unless it was minty. Just too many of these OM Single Sixes out there, even unconverted ones to pay more than $300 for one. At least in this area they're usually pretty available for $300 or less - usually less.
