A free one week class to introduce honorably discharged military veterans or retirees and active duty military personnel to gunsmithing is being offered at Trinidad State Junior College. It will cover operational theory, disassembly, reassembly, proper use of hand tools and precision measuring instruments and an introduction to basic bench work of the gunsmithing trade.

Consideration will be given to minor gun repair and the installation of firearm accessories. A brief study of Federal Firearm Law and record keeping will be included. Students should bring some type of project(s) to work on during lab times under the supervision of the instructor.

The class is taught by TSJC gunsmithing grad and US Army veteran H. Massingill. Since the class is not offered for college credit, the GI Bill will not cover tools and students will be responsible for providing their own tools/supplies and housing and food.

Applicants will need to provide a copy of their active military or retiree ID card or DD214. Current gunsmithing students or gunsmithing alumni are ineligible for this class and it is open only to first-time gunsmithing students who meet the requirement stated above. The class is limited to 10 students on a first come, first serve basis.

To register or for more additional information including a suggested tool/supply list, contact: Donna Haddow at 719-846-5724 or email: [email protected]
