Today I received a F.B. Radom kbk WZ. 1928 rifle from my brother-in-law. He was helping somebody move and they told him that an uncle of theirs received the rifle while serving in WWII. They gave it to him for his trouble, but he doesn’t have any interest in firearms and knew that I did, so he gave it to me. The problem is that when I got it it was in a rifle bag and the bolt was removed and placed at the bottom of the bag. The barrel has a little rust on the outside, but nothing serious, and the works all seem to function well. The bolt on the other hand is badly rusted.

I’m very interested in making this thing shootable, but I’m doubtful. Is there any chance that replacement parts are available? Could a gunsmith help me out without me paying the cost of a new rifle? What’s the best way for me to remove rust?

A little more info…
It’s got a date stamp of 1935 (something that makes it very interesting to me, being a Polish rifle).
It shoots 7.92x57. I’m not sure that I can even get ammo to shoot in the thing.
The stock is not complete. I looked the gun up and saw a picture that included a fore-stock that I don’t have.
Here’s a shortcut to the info I found http://hem.passagen.se/dadkri/Kbk29.htm

I’d really appreciate any help.

Cool find.

This rifle is based on a Mauser 98 style action. Depending upon the part you need, you may or may not be able to find it. E.g., action parts should be easy but Polish-patern stock parts, etc. may be hard to find.

Ammo is common and dirt cheap -- 7.92x57mm is the same as 8mm Mauser.

How badly is the bolt rusted? is it badly pitted or just covered with surface rust. If its not too badly damaged, I would clean it up with steel wool and shoo it. I've seen a few of these around, and I know of one old man who shoots one regularly and is very accurate with it.

Good find.

Well I'm doing what I know how to do to get the rust off. It seems a little worse than suface rust, but It'll look better once I clean it up a bit. I've never had to clean up a gun in this shape.
