I need to change chokes in my 11-87, and the tube is frozen solid in place. Any suggestions to loosen it?

Penetrating oil , also you could heat the barrel and cool the choke.

If it's real bad pull the barrel and let it soak end down in penetrating oil, or plug the end and put about an inch of penetrating oil in the barrel. Then find a good wrench that will catch on all 4 of the notches of the choke tube and hope it unscrews.

Remember, righty tighty, lefty loosy. :D

A--HA!

Finally, something I can post a reply to!:D

I had a similar experience with an 11-87 I bought used.

Making sure the shotgun was empty- I tried to put kroil penetrating oil on the tube, from the muzzle-end, let it sit overnight.

Went to wal-mart, bought a factory Remington wrench with the 4-prongs as listed above (good advice). The 2 cool things about the Remington tube wrench:
1. Less than $10.00 each
2. Has a slot for a 3/8-inch ratchet for a little extra torque...

Carefully secured the barrel, and applied smooth even pressure with a small 3/8 ratchet, came right out. FYI- the kroil had penetrated about 3/4 way down the tube on my shotgun overnight (24 hours, actually).

Cleaned and lubed the bare threads, lube each tube after and before each outing (not going to stick due to lack of my trying ;) )

I'm very happy with the results.

All the best,

Penetrating oil and your home deep freeze for a couple of days.

I went this route with a badly rusted porch lamp that Mom found in the basement in the house where they now live. It is the original lamp, and was taken down in the 1960s or so.

I couldn't get the screws loose to restore it, so I hosed it down with penetrating oil and put it in the freezer for 2 days.

At the end of two days the screws came loose with little trouble.

It never dawned on me that I could use a socket wrench on that square, not that I have ever needed too. Thanks for the tip.
