did anyone catch 'future weapons' on discovery last night? what did you think about the 'corner shot'?

I recorded it on Tivo, but have not yet watched it.
If the Corner Shot is the same device I've seen before, it's not really a gun. It's a device that holds a handgun, and allows you to view and shoot it around the corner.
If that's not what they showed, then I have not seen it before.

Awwww. What did it show?
What was interesting was the flight performance of the Javlin. Had never seen the abrupt downward change of direction the missle takes in the final stages before. (They also wrongfully put in a shot of a Dragon being fired in a short clip.) Interesting about Germany's version of the Palidin.

I enjoyed it. Got to say, germanys new field artillary pieces were pretty cool.

I thing the bad guy lobing a gernade around the corner once they see that gun poke around is going to offset any advantage that it had.
my argument has always been why can't the good guy throw a flashbang, smoke, or even a frag grenade around the corner just as easily? The old mirror on a stick still works just fine to peeking around the corner.
Some people argue that the grenade, especially a frag, won't allow precise placment like one of these 'corner guns' say if the badguy is holding a hostage.
To me this is bunk. If the guy is holding the hostage, and his back is turned (determined with stick and mirror) poke your head out and straight eyeball down the sights, boom!
If the guy is aware, looking around, etc etc, he will notice the cornergun pointed at him too. Do you think he is just going to sit there and comply and let himself be shot by the cornergun, of course not, he will move, threaten the hostage, etc etc.

With the cornershot you have the advantages of a mirror on a stick plus a firearm. Once you identify the target, shoot!
Not so with the mirror on a stick. You have to put that down first, get your weapon on target, and then shoot. The bad guy could have moved by the time you put the mirror down, right?
Even if the bad guy does see the cornershot and moves, he can still be reacquired by the sights and shot. If you're holding a mirror on a stick around the corner and he sees it, what are you gonna do, hope the sun is shining and blind him?
What's wrong with the good guys taking advantge of the situation by using superior weapons and tactics?
i'd not like to shoot too much around explosives either.

The number of times that after checking with mirror on stick that a headpoke or grenade of some type won't fufill the situation are very very slim. The few that do, really probably require one of those bomb disposal robots.

The bigger the toolbox gets, the more it weights the operator down to carry a ton of gadgets for every conceivable situation.
Toolbox budget is not infinite. The purchase of a cornergun is going to delay the purchase of something else, be that training time, rifles in patrol cars, new vests, makes it that much harder to afford one more new body on the streets patroling, etc etc.

Future Weapons/May 2006
Tried to watch "Future Weapons" the other night, but when the highly skilled ten year veteran of the Navy Seals called the destroyer COLE (attacked by terrorists while in harbor) a "Battleship" I had to leave the room laughing. His boot camp Commander probably went home and committed suicide. Much bad information on that program.

I thought the show was suppose to be about future weapons, I posted about the Cornershot about 3 years ago. http://www.thehighroad.org/showthread.php?t=13355 the link takes you to the Israeli Special Forces and doesn't show the Cornershot anymore. It was designed by a former Israeli SF guy, I found out about it through a friend. His boss was working with them to develope the camera options, wiring....
At least the show Future Weapons is good for something, a laugh. That and some good explosions, demolition....
