I bought a Kimber Tactical Ultra II 3 weeks ago and had issues with it jamming so I gave it back to my dealer to send to their gunsmith. I just got it back and put 100 round of Winchester white box through it... with 2 failure to feeds, most likely my fault from limp wristing. It is shooting fine now with those occasional jams -- which may be my fault -- but still, when I get in a bad situation I don't want it to happen, whether it's my fault or not.

Basically I am wanting opinions about a piece for concealed carry. I own a G19 and have NEVER had one failure in it. Should I just go for the G36 so I know it will never fail on me when I need it? Is the G36 a quality piece? Possibly the G30?

Thanks! Any opinions will help;)

Kevin

The G36 is an excellent carry gun. Never jammed once on me and was more accurate than a small 45 should ever hope to be.

Opinions vary on the Glock 36. Some have had bad experiences (feeding problems, etc.) while others have had flawless ones. I've never heard bad words about the Glock 30s performance, though not everyone is thrilled with the thickness of the grip. My own experience with the 36 is a positive one as I had no issues with it whatsoever, though I honestly didn't shoot it a lot. I've never shot a 30 so I can't give any input on it, but if it's anything like its bigger brother, the Glock 21 (the only Glock I own so far), then it will be a flawless performer.

Is there any reason you aren't carrying the Glock 19?

I've owned two G36's. Foolishly sold the first one. Bought another. Both functioned great, never a problem.

I used to own a Glock 36, but sold it. I did have problems with it feeding and cycling. I have worked on 100's of Glocks, literaly, and that Glock 36 was the only one that consistenly gave ANY trouble. If you don't need the slim frame, go with the Glock 30. Good gun, more rounds. For some reason the Glock 36 doesn't meet Glock's standard for reliability. Each gun is different, some will work fine, while others won't. In speaking with LE groups from the southwest we all have had the same experience with the 36. Some work, some don't.

if it's something that you rely upon, you need one that works, not the one that works when it wants to.

I think the answer is obvious.

Thanks for all of the input guys :)

whatbrick -- the 9MM just isn't the cal I want for a CCW

bestseller92 -- I've shot the G27 and the .40 cal kicks weird for me. It is too much of a 'snappy' feeling.

gudel -- Very blunt and very true, thanks!

My G36 has been flawless, but I know that some of this model pistol have caused headaches for some owners.

Bought a G36 last week & so far after 300 rounds, no worries. I have a G30 - shoots great with no negative issues..

I CC a G26 daily, 18 hours. For me this would be a PIA with the G30 but not with the G36.. Figure the G36 will swap duties with the G26 from time to time.. 45ACP, one has to try real hard not to like..

I'm glad it all worked out and you are satisfied.

I sure would like to know what is going on at Kimber.
The pre-series II Kimbers I own run like champs.
