I have one of these used with paperwork BUT it has a name etched on the blade, was given as a gift.
How deep does the etching go, it is something that can be polished out without showing? This looks like chemical etching not engraved.

A very skilled knifemaker could probably grind it out and re-polish the blade.

But for the rest of us?
Probably not!

If you have any experience just hand rubbing the fine belt sander scratches out of a new hand ground blade, you would find it is a long process, involving a lot of hard hand work.
And those fine belt sander marks are not as deep as an etched name.

Thanks rc I just checked it again a little closer I can feel the etching. So back in the safe it goes.
