D00AF730-77F7-4910-A487-B865A26E7DED.jpeg I thought you guys would get a kick out of this.

I was browsing for a Velcro nylon side saddle on eBay for my 590 and stumbled upon this mess of a shell holder. It was too hilarious not to share.

On a serious note, what kind of side saddle, or buttstock shell carrier do you prefer?

I don't want anything plastic, metal, or other sticking out of the outline of my shotgun. I will, however, use an Allen sleeve on my slug gun since it has a scope and sling too. Pull it out of the case, slip in the mag and I've got eight rounds. Should be enough for the season.

I like the side saddle plates made by SGT like that ridiculous thing in the picture, except they bolt on the left side of the receiver. The only drawback is they cover the serial # on the Mossberg, which was a pain in the butt in the army because we had to take the thing off to verify the serial # when we did inventory.

Oh, I don't know. That would look really cool on a Mossberg 500 Chainsaw and it wouldn't even impair the function thereof. And you could still have a sidesaddle!

I don't have any particular need for a sidesaddle at this time, but I hear that all the tactical cool kids are into those detachable shotgun "cards" you mentioned.

I've always thought it would be funny to mount a sidesaddle on the right side (or maybe on both sides!) of an Ithaca 37. See if anybody notices.

I use bandier shell carrier like the one Amazon sells for $10.39. Got mine at closeout price at my fav Hood Walmart. I load ten 2&1/4" 00 Bk shells from Cabela's Herter line.

I have a regular side saddle on my 500, but is a HD gun only; otherwise, while hunting, I keep my shells in my pocket

The main reason, while 8+1 is more than enough for an HD application, in three Gun it’s useful. And practicing reloads is always nice. Thanks for the opinions

I don't know why they stopped at 5. Your vision is blocked. They could extend it to 10 or 15 right down the top of the barrel like a roll rack of depth charges. Seems theres too many "looks cool" screw function products. My HD pump holds 7, 5 in a side saddle and 5 in cuff on stock.

One thing to watch for when installing a "side-saddle" on any shotgun with a polymer receiver: in the process of installing one on my Benelli Nova pump, I managed to tighten the thru-bolts tight enough to slightly warp/distort the receiver and keep the shotgun from functioning. Backing off the bolts a couple of turns restored the functionality.

I have a Mesa Tactical side saddle on my 20ga 870 exp. As well as a Knox collapsible stock and synthetic forearm.

Mine holds 6 rds. They replace the two trigger assembly pins with small machine screws, and its held on by those. Very rigid.

A lace-on leather buttcuff. Doesn't slide around under recoil, doesn't get in the way.

*Gasp* I thought shotguns magically hit any bad guys in the general vicinity of where you're pointing!

I figure the full tube is plenty but I usually (not in this picture) keep slugs in those 2 spots on the buttstock

I did the same with a saddle type scope mount once.

A custom leather butt cuff not only holds extra shells but adds a certain amount of class.

I just have the inexpensive Bob Allen elastic one on my Mossy. I keep 00 Buck in the gun and Brenneke KO slugs in the saddle (unless I'm camping in Grizz country, then it's the other way around).
