ghost ring or red-dot for 3-gun

Out club mostly does IDPA, but we have several 3-gun matches..so I'm putting together a Remington 870 express..

I'm not even sure what's allowed, IDPA doesn't have any rules.. I'll ask some of the other members and find out, I suspect that pretty much anything goes...

I'm thinking ghost ring sights are much more durable, so I'll not have to worry about knocking things around as much.

Any suggested brands? I'm guessing ghost rings will require gunsmithing, but I'm not sure. The red-dot wouldn't, and it seems that every shop has mounts in stock.

The Wilson Combat / XS Systems I think are what some Remingtons come with now. You can also send them to Tooltech and have them install Trijicon 3-dots, but it may be more expensive than sending it to Wilson Combat. I think it's because they solder then have to refinish the gun.

I don't think that the red dot sights are legal in Limited 3 gun. I use the Williams peep rear sight and take out the center small peep. Ran those in Open and limited until I just switched to a JPoint for Open class shotgun.

Thanks, I may just try and find some form of rear site and blade for the front.

Perhaps I'll get a red dot later for playing around ;-)

red dot sights are not legal for use in the SWAT world championship 3-gun match on shotguns.


What sighting system do you have on your HD gun?


I suggest either 1. using your HD gun for 3-gun, or 2. making your HD gun and your 3-gun gun as close as possible in terms of functioning, and manual of arms. thi means you'll get the maximum benefit from your 3-gunning experience.

So true.. I've only got one Shotgun, my primary HD gun is a GP-100 and a seperate flashlight. I purchased the shotgun for 3-gun, but it'll also do dual duty as HD.

Right now it just has a front bead, we'll be doing 3-gun this sunday and I'll see how I do with that. As I shoot mostly pistol, perhaps I should get rifle sights so that the picture is similar..
