My first gun was a P226 and that was my benchmark that I used to compare all the handguns I would encounter. It looks awesome and feel very comfortable in the hands when shooting. Well balanced and quality built.
So now I recently purchased the Gen 4 Glock 17. I don't like small guns because of the recoil and my shooting accuracy, so I didn't even think about the Glock 19. So my reason for getting the Glock 17 was because it is one of those guns that are low maintenance, dependable, easy to shoot and lots of aftermarket modifications available. I am not used to having a DAO because it is perhaps just me being paranoid. There is no safety lever. Since I use my guns for target shooting and practice, it is fine with me as I will not be keeping the gun loaded ever unless I will be doing some shooting. I can shoot 10 rounds at a 10" target at 50ft without my glasses (I am nearsighted) and can hit about 5 times out of 10 on average. My best was probably at 8 of 10. I remember my first time shooting, it was 4 (not bad) as I am a true amateur. What is weird is my one hand shooting gets better accuracy than my two hand shooting stance. My glock came standard with a case and 2 clips and a lock. Very convenient.
I also have the newest generation of SP2022 SigPro but it is a 40SW caliber, haven't got the time to shoot it yet. It is definitely not the same feel as the P226. I will write more about it if anyone cares to see my opinions about these two guns.
So my thoughts are this. The glock 17 seems to look flimsy and cheap, but I think I love it the most. If I had to choose what I have in my lineup, I would choose the Glock 17 G4.
