I want to know what is the best .40 caliber for the glock 22 in practice ammunition and defense ammunition such as brand and the weight of the ammo. My number 1 priority is ammunition that is reliable and would not damage the gun and make it blow up. Thanks in advance.

Is there really one best .40 load?

Boy, you sure opened up a can of worms...
In my experience: Many people say heavy/slower (knock-down power), many people say lighter faster (higher energy and increased, more reliable expansion of hollow points), and most are still constantly pursuing that perfect balance between speed and projectile weight/mass.

Me? I follow that balancing act. I prefer a modest weight (165gr. or so) coupled with a high velocity (1200fps and up). I have always liked the Cor-Bon loads. Excellent expansion and weight retention with plenty of speed to produce high energy levels.

My department issues Win. Ranger SXT (Formerly known as BlackTalon if you remember the pre-Clinton good ole' days :banghead: ). Bullet design is excellent, but Win. loads it too mildly to reap all the benefits of the projectile when used against heavy clothing, wallboard, etc...

Off-duty, I carry custom loaded Speer Gold Dot (165gr.) at about 1300fps.

Anyway, this is just my opinion. There are many, many members of this forum who know far mor than I.
:D But, at least I got to reply before any one else! (New Member :) )

Good Luck!

I like the 165gr gold dots as well. The have run 100% malfunction free in my 22, 23 AND 27. They're also accurate and consistant.

For practice I just use the cheapest ammo I can find.

I like the sound of that!

I've always carried 180 gr Hydrashoks in my G23 and 27. Old dogs and new tricks, dontcha know....

Any of the bonded bullets tend to perform really well against targets, even if the bullet must pass through glass, heavy clothing, or sheet metal first. We tested some of the aforementioned 165gr Gold Dots vs. a car, none separated, they all expanded, even through windshield glass and car doors. So, much like this crowd, I carry 165gr Speer Gold Dots.

Practice Ammo: Winchester White Box or CCI Blazer have both been economical and reliable.
