 O.K. I have narrowed my search for my next pistol to three different Models. I hope you all will give me the pro's and cons for each model and help me decide which is best for me. I plan to go to the Gunshop and actually put my hands on all three and see which feels the best. I have ruled out the 10mm for ammunition reasons, being harder to find and more expensive and the 40 also. I am gonna go with the 45 acp. My three choices are:
1. Glock 30 45 acp which has a mag cap of 10.
2. Glock 21 45 acp which has a mag cap of 13.
3. Springfield xd 45 with 5" barrel, mag cap of 13.

Some of you with experience in these 3 give me your input. Problems? Cleaning? anything you think I may have over looked? I look forward to your valuable input.

Scott:rolleyes:

I only have the 21 and XD, not the G30, and they have been great. I prefer the grip on the XD to the Glock.

They're both accurate enough and field-stripping each is a piece of cake, as is getting a good sight picture.

Both have functioned flawlessly with various types of ammo...at various stages of cleanliness.

I prefer the trigger on the Glock :uhoh: to the Springfield.

If I were deciding between the two I'd go with the XD simply because it's much more comfortable to me. At some point it would go back to Springfield to get the trigger adjusted.

I don't think you'll go wrong with either one, so find something, maybe it's grip comfort, sight picture, trigger pull, that can help you decide: as you know if often the little things that make a gun great...or awful!

Hope this helps.

I once went to a gun shop specifically to buy a Glock 30. Once I held it in my hand, I didn't like the way my pinky finger dangled in the air. It was also a warm day and my hands were a little sweaty, thus I couldn't get a good grip on the pistol.
The Glock 21 has a full size grip but, I just don't like the way it points. I'm not bad-mouthing Glocks, both models are fine pistols you can bet your life on, they're just not for me.
I ended up buying a XD 45 Service 4". It points more like a 1911 and just feels more comfortable. I've lost count of how many rds. I've put through it now but, it's never failed. The XD will eat anything. Can't go wrong with 13+1 either. I'm sure a 5" will fit your needs, it's just a 4" is easier to hide.

What are you going to use the gun for?
CCW,home defense, range plinker or all of the above?

G30 & aa

I have a G21 and G30. The grip is to fat on both, but you get use to it, I did. My G30 is much more accurate than the G21, both off hand and from braced sitting. "AND" I have a Accurate Arms 22 conversion for the G30. I've shot the XD45, well, to me it was very Glock like, it was OK. I would first buy any Accurate Arms 22 conversion kit I could find then get the matching Glock. Last time I checked the AA kit the G30 was the most available.

I have the three, but the OP didn't say what it was going to be used for. I don't like the XD, maybe because I was used to the Glocks before the XD came out. Between the 30 and 21, size might make a difference for you. Someone mentioned not liking the size of the 30 and that his pinky just floated in the air. I don't like that either and it makes a world of difference to install a grip extension.

:DThanks for the input. One of you asked what I would use it for. Well really its just a multi purpose gun from plinking to hunting to just having. Not really getting it to Conceal and Carry! I have something for that. I am still torn on what to choose! Guess I will know more when I get my hand around them. I have heard alot of good things about the XD and the Glock. What about night sites, are they worth the money. I like the "field goal post type" site that Glock has. Not sure about the XD sites. Keep input coming. It is very helpful!;)

I've been wanting a new .45 ACP for a while but I'm waiting to see if they come out with one in the XDm model. If I was going to buy one tomorrow it would be a tough choice between the XD and the M&P.

Between the two guns, it really comes down to only one thing: How they feel in your hand. The differences in quality, reliability, function, availability of parts, damned near every single characteristic between the two guns is so negligible that the one thing that really matters the most is how they feel in your hand. Choose the one which feels the best to you and you should be happy. Nice thing about it is that in today's Obamified world, if you make a wrong choice you certainly won't have any problem finding a buyer.

As for sights, I'm a big fan of the aftermarket. Tru-glo are the sights I like best. They have fiber optics as well as tritium, you never have to worry about being able to see your sights.

Glock > All

Well, I do like my Glocks, but I don't know if I'd go that far. Someone else has said that they are like a good tool. I would agree with that, because they work well.

really its just a multi purpose gun from plinking to hunting

Hunting? I don't really think of the .45 acp as a hunting round but you didn't say what you would be hunting. Might be zombies and it might work well for that. In that case, I'd say the Glock 21.

Glocks never worked for me due to the grip angle, but that may not apply to you-just handle 'em and decide.

I do like the grip safety on the XD-there seem to be too many AD/NDs with Glocks-I've got a feeling a number of those are not due to "finger on the trigger", but clothing etc hanging when holstering?

Anywho-with proper holstering technique, the XD's grip safety should rectify the AD/ND when holstering.

Finally decided to go with the XD 45 with 5" barrel, black and SS Slide. I handled all 3 weapons and the XD just felt better in my hands as most of you said did for you also. Thank you all for your valuable input. Me Love HighRoad! :^ ):D
