As my eyes continue to decline my need for sight options increases. I bought a Glock 34 about a year and a half and have really come to enjoy the gun. I slicked up the trigger group and put a front fiber optic while keeping the factory adjustable rear. The combo works well for me. It's shoots great and even has tight groups (for me).

I have looked at different options to install a small red dot a Vortex or Burris FF. I have considered getting my slide cut at the gunsmith, several dove tail mounting options, the JT Defense set up (looks pretty good), I have even considered a new upper (which would cost allot). I almost hate to mess with it because it functions so well I just want to shoot longer distances well. To properly do a full upper with the sight costs as much as a new gun with the optic.
What has been your guys experiences? Which platforms work best? The JT system seems solid but physically the complete upper with a machined slide seems the superior system.

I have one cut by L&M precision and it’s flawless.

I also shoot matches regularly with a guy who used a dovetail mount on his Glock and has had no problems with it.

I guess for serious use I’d recommend you send your slide for the cut or swap it for a MOS version, but for range or plinking give the dovetail mount a try.

Thanks for the info, as far as I can tell us half a citizens here in Ca. cant buy MOS versions. We are restricted to Gen 3 and back. The dove tail design appear ok, maybe a little lacking, especially the extra height and support. I'm not a serious competitor but I do put allot downrange.

It may be best to send it in to get Machined, thanks for the link. Hate to lose a weekly shooter for 5 plus weeks. :( Your time and advice is appreciated!

Thanks 1-K lots of good options. Guess new slide options are not a bad deal. The cheapest option are still dove tail sight mount. Machine work +optics = new gun.
Guess Dove tails are the way to go.

I didn’t want to change my factory slide but wanted to dabble with a red dot on one, Brownells had a sale on their slides awhile back and I picked one up.

Not to mention cheaper than the cost of just the modification to the factory slide from the first source in #4.

I have decided to go with the JT Defense mount. If the red dot gives me extra range I can always go the new slide route and put the mount on another Glock. Thank you guys for the help!

Also must be removed for battery change . It is also wider than the Glock slide . Very tough . The FF 3 Burris has a bigger screen and is the same width as the Glock slide and top battery change . Also half the cost . Either would be a good choice . I have used both . Jagerworks will mill the slide for $125 for either . I’m sure the dovetail mount will work fine , but you lose the rear sight. Pros and cons . Enjoy your red dot . You will be spoiled forever .

Got the suarez mount on my g20c. Secures with the dovetail and comes over the back then locks in with a thicker backplate. No way for it to move anywhere. Optional cowitness irons work well but take up alot of window space..

If I wanted a red dot on a G34, I'd just buy a Gen 5 G34. I'd leave my Gen 4 G34 unmolested in the event you end up wishing you didn't do the modification.
Here in Ca. we can't get anything newer than Gen three. There are no factory optic cut Glocks for sale new in Ca.
