glock chamber

I feel as ifi am asking a stupid question on the type of handgun that i own the most of but can you guys explain to me the "un-supported chamber" that glocks have? any advantages/disadvantages and is glock the only type of pistol that utilizes such a chamber. thanks

I think the "unsupported chamber" means that the bullet isn't totally encased/surrounded when it is ready to fire; i.e. part of the brass rim of the bullet itself is exposed. Google image search will show you what I'm talking about.

I heard some talk about .40 Glocks going "kaboom" because of this unsupported chamber. I've never experienced any problems with my Glock 19. I think this unsupported chamber is part of why Glock advises against reloads; you never know how often the brass in a reload has been used.

That said, I thought I read somewhere the current generation had addressed the issue. I'd research it thoroughly before buying one. Kabooms just aren't something to shrug off.

Couple of things...
I have yet to see a semi-automatic pistol that had 100% support.
If you double charge your case or you seat your bullet too deeply, no amount of support in the world is going to keep your pistol from spontaneously and catastophically disassembling itself.

A 1911 isn't completely supported. I just giggle when I hear someone say that they won't buy a pistol with an unsupported chamber. (A .45 runs much lower pressure than a .40.)

The current generation is Gen 4.
The "problem" was fixed with Gen 3.
