Saw this picture today of a Gen 5 poster.

No finger grooves. No standard front cocking serrations. A DLC coating. And a slightly rounded front end as seen on the 34/35.

What do you all think? I was hoping for a little more although I couldn't tell you what exactly. Just seems like a polished up Gen 2 for now.

Maybe the grip texture is more like the RTF series? Hard to tell in the shot.

eh... id be curious to see what their carry guns are like in a gen 5. id like to see a glock 30s or 36 in a gen 5. maybe the 43 as well, and see if they did anything internally. might be worth selling off my none cali compliant 30s for quite the price and buy a better one...if its better.

I have always found Glocks to be among the fastest semi autos to reload, the mags seems to always glide right in. Not sure a flared mag well is any real benefit here.

From what I have found online the Marksman Barrel is supposed to be traditional lands and grooves, not polygonal, and have a target crown.

LOL this is glock we are talking about. They really haven't done anything new since introduced. lengthening here cutting there is not ground breaking more refreshing.
I surmise you will have to wait till ol Gaston kicks the bucket to actually see anything new.
I learned my lesson with gen4's. I'll wait for you beta testers to work through the bugs on this 5th version of "perfection".

Not really seeing anything all that new or innovative to characterize it as a Gen.5 version.

Tarosean,

I think that challenge is behind them. As of June, the Bureau SWAT boys are off their 1911 and Sigs, and onto the 17M. New agents have been issued the 19M, or at least specifically the last class was. I suspect the Firearms Training Unit boys put in more than a little overtime on this one.

Tarosean,

As I understand it, HRT does have a choice from a short list of sidearms. HRT is not SWAT. They are two distinct teams.

Here is a excerpt from the Glock email that I received this morning:

The G17 Gen5 and G19 Gen5 pistols were inspired by the GLOCK M pistols used by the FBI and include many features the GLOCK community has been asking for. There are over 20 design changes which differentiate our Gen5 pistols from their Gen4 predecessors, including a flared mag-well, a new nDLC finish, the GLOCK Marksman Barrel, ambidextrous slide stop levers, and a grip which has no finger grooves.

These pistols will be available at your favorite GLOCK dealer beginning August 30.

Here is what I read on fb

17M/19M & Gen 5 changes from the Gen 4 pistols include:
-no finger grooves
-flared mag well
-ambidextrous one-piece slide stop lever
-front of the slide is rounded to match the Gen 4 subcompacts and long slide models. But pics don't seem to show the frame being beveled to match.
-land and groove rifling instead of polygonal
-same style firing pin safety (angled instead of flat) as the Glock 43
-return to two-pin frame due to a redesign in the locking block that removes the need for the third pin.
-slide lock spring similar to Glock 43
-return of cutout on bottom of front strap to assist with stripping magazine (such as due to a double feed)
-tougher finish applied to the same Melonite metal treatment process. This finish is dubbed dLC (diamond like coating)
-the upper cartouche, the flat area on the upper right grip area that show where the pistol was made, has been moved down and combined with the lower one, which contains the patent number
-Mags have an orange mag follower
-Mags have extended front lip
-Mags have a slightly rounded base plate (bottom front edge)
-There are no front serrations, as some people claim, or as some photoshopped pictures suggest. Glock added an LCI to the guns many years ago to negate the need for press checks.

From what I'm told, the 'M' mags will work in previous generation pistols.

I ;love my Gen 2 Glock 19 and am interested in maybe getting a new Gen 5 Glock 19. Going to see if I can try one out tomorrow. Supposed to be more accurate with new barrel.

Here is a lot more info:

http://www.recoilweb.com/inside-the-glock-gen-5-129141.html

Part of the info:

Previous Generation Compatibility
It’s actually much easier to list what is compatible with Gen 4 Glocks than what isn’t:
-Magazine Release
-Magazines
-Recoil Spring (G19 only)
-Striker spring and sleeve
-Channel Liner
-Spring cups

This means virtually all of your aftermarket parts won’t work with the Gen5. Glock tells us they were focused on increasing durability, accuracy, and cost effectiveness at an agency level with the Gen5; the aftermarket isn’t their focus. If the Gen 5 proves successful, the aftermarket will follow.

Regarding durability, we’ve heard from a reliable source that the Mean Rounds Between Stoppage (MRBS) is 11,000 and there’s at least one Gen5 with more than 30,000 rounds through it with no parts replacement. The increased commonality of parts between the G17 and G19 means cheaper repairs and a reduced parts inventory for law enforcement, government, and military agencies, and for commercial armorers, as well.

I would like to know what that "Marksman" barrel" is. And if the rounded frame areas will still fit in exhisting holsters, "I assume they will". And if they finally fixed the trigger and put metal sights on the gun. If so I will sell my Gen 4, and kick in 50 -100 bucks and buy one, although not now, as they will come down.
Ok just read that the sights are still plastic, and internals are different in most of the popular places that people fool with.
We will see if this is accepted especially since it's only the 17 and 19. Many may resist the urge to buy an oddball 19 that is kind of a Unicorn, I am reserving judgement until I feel the trigger.
