I know this has probably been beaten into the ground already, but I'm trying to settle a few conflicting rumors.

True or False? Glocks of the same frame size (17/22/31), (19/23/32), (21/20), (30/29) are able to interchange calibers (9mm, .40S&W, .357Sig) and (.45ACP/10mm) by swapping the barrels, magazines and possibly the recoil springs?

I have heard conflicting information on all accounts, so does anyone care to clarify this with first hand knowledge?

True or False? This is also true with the Sig-Sauer frames? 226 in 9mm/.40S&W/.357Sig, 229 in 9mm/.40S&W/.357Sig?

The frames are the same, in that a P226 in 9mm isn't marked "9mm" anywhere but the barrel. Same with the other calibers, so if they are not interchangable how do you know what frame you have outside of looking at the barrel that you can only presume came with it?

Thanks in advance!

glocks... no 9mm conversion to 357 or 40... but .40 or 357 glocks can be converted to 9mm with the special barrel.. 40 and 357 are interchangeable
large frame... 10mm and 45 are only large frame you cant put it into a small frame gun... 10mm can be put into a 45 with the conversion barrel a regular one wont fit 45 cant be put into 10mm

umm.....huh?

Summing it up

If your gun is in .40 or .357 (sig) you can change barrels to the other caliber. I have heard it's possible to adapt it to 9mm but I have yet to see anything concrete and an easy "how to." So I chalk it up to shade tree gunsmithing meets wishful thinking.

It sounds like you can convert a .45 to a 10mm in a Glock. But again I don't know the details. Good luck, I'd recommend sticking to .40-.357

Another part you should change if you want a SAFE conversion in the Glocks is the ejector (permanently molded into the trigger block); the 9mm ejector is bent in slightly, which increases the likelihood of an ejector-fire if you just swap in a 40 or 357 top end. The actual frame is identical between the 17/22/31, it's just the combination of parts that changes.

Glock 22 can change to a 9mm if you change the trigger block, barrel, magazine and maybe the spring?

Yes, I do realize that it'd be cheaper and safer to just purchase a factory G17but I'm just going for principle here...

Thanks, guys. You've all been a big help.

No one has answered the Sig question concerning how to tell what caliber frame a Sig P226 is except for the barrel....

You probably wouldn't even NEED to change the magazine if you were going from 40 to 9 in the Glock; I've tried it, and the 10-round 40 magazine holds 12 rounds and functions fine, but I don't know if I'd trust it in a carry gun.

HMM

The Barrel is the deciding factor on Caliber. I don't think it used to be that way, but with the Sigs switching between 40 and .357 is so fast and easy (drop in new barrel and re-assemble) that marking the barrel is safer.

to change a .40 or 357 gun to 9mm you need the CONVERSION barrel nothing else is really needed... as for 10mm and 45 it goes from 45 to 10 only with a CONVERSION barrel and mags... sigs would be the same way but since there isnt a 10mm sig your .45 sig will stay 45
