Going to buy a CMP Garand; what else do I need?

Over on Parallax Bill's some few months ago someone posted photos of his M1 after a KA case split had allowed gas into the magazine well and destroyed the stock. No one hurt and rifle repairable. I searched but could not find these pics.

As a result I have decided to shoot KA only in 1903 bolt rifles (with a Hatcher hole) but save the clips to load PS onto.

Thanks again for all of your replies and follow-up replies.

I placed my order in the mail this morning.

Oh, one more thing: I keep seeing the advice to get a one-piece cleaning rod and not use the multi-segmented screw together rods. Why? Are the multi-segmented not coaxial or something that causes sharp edges to be exposed at the joints?

You all have been a *great* help. Maybe someone will want to meet me at a range some day and show me how to properly shoot the rifle. ;)

You won't be lonely at the range. The Garand is a real crowd pleaser. I got one from the CMP in November and took it to the range in December. Several shooters stopped by to examine it and comment on it. I let a few folks shoot it, they loved it.

"TimRB, can yuo give us the link for that post with the damaged Garand?"

Sorry, I have checked the site again and was not able to find it. I think it is too old and has been chucked into the bit bucket.
