I see AIM and probably others have some FN FNS 9mm trade in guns for sale at what seems like a reasonable price. I need another gun like... whatever, but always like a good deal. The ad picture shows them looking like new.

Are these good guns, and is this a good deal?

LE TRADE-IN FNS 9MM PISTOL
These pistols are in great shape as the pictures show and have minimal wear if any. Includes factory box and 17rd magazine.

ONLY $299.95

They are OK but I would look for a properly priced M&P 2.0 NIB which should be within $100 of that price.

I bought a new M&P M2.0 Compact 4" in .40 S&W for $299.99 and an OEM 4.25" 9mm Barrel for $79.99. The Pistol came from Sportsman's Outdoor Superstore and the barrel from Midway USA.

Of course if you really want an FNS go for it.

FNS are decent guns with a somewhat tarnished reputation. There was a recoil of some sort. I have had a FNS9c and a 40c both were reliable and accurate. They have almost no resale value so $300 seems a bit high.

I had one without any problems. It was above the S/N that had AD issues.

Shot it quite a bit then traded it at a LGS for a new 45ACP 1911 Commander clone @ $360.

I have the same gun in .40 and it is a fine shooter. That is a lot of quality for $300 IMHO. I'm broke or this would be very tempting.

AZ DPS and Baltimore County PD experienced some issues, leading to a "service bulletin":

Magazines tend to be H&K level expensive.

It's probably a good enough pistol, but there's a lot of cheap .40 police trades out there to choose from. For as much or less, you could get an older Glock or an M&P, or a newer Glock or a Sig for just a little more.

Hit up gun.deals and look around. Summit Gunbroker is also a good source of cheap police trades.

I had an FNS 40 and while it was a decent enough gun, and I got it for $369 new, I didn't like the grip at all. The "pyramids" or whatever to give you "traction" were overdone, IMHO, and even though it wasn't as bad as the all time worst feeling grip I've ever owned, that was the infamous S&W "Cheese Grater" grips they put on their revolvers years ago that were just ridiculous, it was uncomfortable to shoot without gloves on, and I just don't like to wear gloves when I shoot. Some people love over the top textured grips, but I don't get it at all.
