What is a good safe hunting load for the 30 .06 using a 180 GR. Bullet. I will be hunting whitetail deer in thick brush and prefer the 180 GR. Bullet. Most shots will be 70 yards or less.

Hi, I'm new here. But I've been loading for my Rem. 700 ADL 30-06 for years. I have recently gone to a Nosler 180gr Partition spitzer with 53gr of IMR4350. They test good at the range from (1"--5 shot gps) 50yds out to (2.5"--5 shot gps.) 200yds.

180 is a bit much for Whitetails but if thats what you want to use then so be it. IMR 4350 works great with the 180's as well as 165's. I use the Sierra Gameking 165gr JSP and they are an awesomely accurate round out of my Savage.

These are for BOLT ACTION RIFLES, OR PUMPS:
60.0gr of RL-22, and Nosler 180gr Partition.
If long range deer, Nosler 180gr Balistic Tip.
Seat to 3.325"oal (3.34"max oal is generally max. but some rifles will feed through the magazine if longer. If so, .030" off lands is generally best as these are HUNTING loads, and should chamber easily).
Velocity will run ~2,800fps from a 24"bbl and 2,750fps from 22" bbl
Use Federal #210 primer if possible.
Norma Brass if possible.
The above load is sub moa in two different but similar .30/06's I have.
Hunting rifles, not match guns. One has a very light contour bbl, but still very, very accurate.

60.0gr H4831 for 2,750fps (24"bbl), 2,700fps (22"bbl).
Very similar to above load, but RL-22 is more accurate IMO.

56.0gr H4350
55.0gr IMR4350 (my second favorite, gets about 2,700fps 24"bbl, but is likely to be as accurate as RL-22, maybe more in some guns. Your results may vary.

I have had excellent results with H4831SC and a 180 Sierra BTSP with my A Bolt. Recommend that you start at 56 grains and work up. 56 grains should give you a nice 2540 fps. 60 grains should give you a nice 2670 fps. All from a 22 inch barrel.:) Be very much aware that 60 grains is a maximum powder charge according to Lyman's 48th edition. Work up to it slowly and carefully.
