Good Quality FAL under $1000

I am wondering if anyone out there right now is making a decent FAL for under $1000? I have fooled around with various weapons that Century had the wise idea of refering to as rifles. This sort of began as a getting an AR or a PTR-91. Looking at the power difference in cartridges, I decided to get a Main Battle Rifle, but I had to accept the possibility of getting an FAL.

At the same time that you consider the FAL issue, is there an HK under a $1000 that deserves my attention? While I've heard that it's just next to impossible to beat a PTR-91 (base model) on price and quality, I'm wondering if I can get something approaching acceptable.

MSRP on a DSA StG-58 is $1150, so in theory you could likely get one for under $1000, but that might be complicated right now by the Barry-O gun frenzy.

Check out the FAL files marketplace section. You may be able to find a lightly used DSA or quality build for under 1k.

When you order direct from DSA, they knock a couple hundred or so of their advertised price. That could put an STF-58 under a grand.
