I picked up this Anschutz a while back. Rather than buying something cheap that I'd probably want to upgrade in a couple years I followed the old buy once cry once idea. Spend the money for something really nice.

At the time I wasn't sure exactly what I'd end up using it for, so I put a Bushnell Elite 6500 2.5-16x42mm scope that was laying around on it. My thinking was that wide magnification range and adjustable objective would make for a great "do it all" scope. The magnification range is great, but it's kind of big and heavy for a 22.

Now that I've actually had it for a while, I can report back that I'm not doing 200 yard bench rest or bulls eye competitions. It's been used to get rid of some pesky squirrels and other small critters at the farm. Beyond that, lots of targets either offhand or with the bipod mounted and shooting off the picnic table.

Pretty much everything is under 100 yards. Possibly out to 125 but that's not common at all.

I must say the rifle is amazingly accurate, but I'm thinking it's probably time to downsize the scope a bit. It's bigger than what I need. I still want something good -- worthy of sitting on top of such a nice gun, but more suited to my needs.

My thoughts are 3-9 or maybe 4-12 power, with an adjustable objective. I'd like to be able to get the parallax down to 10 yards. A finish to match the rifle would be nice but not necessary.

Any recommendations? I don't want to go cheap. This is a high end rifle and I the glass to be equally nice. Someday (hopefully not soon) I plan on leaving this thing to my kid or nephew.

Those are really nice had one on a 223, but I'm kinda looking for something that I can dial the parallax in a bit closer

Be sure to look carefully at specs! I noted just this afternoon while snapping pics for another thread that my Leupold Mark AR in 3-9x is actually longer than my VX-2 in 4-12x. I confirmed what I noted on Leupold’s website and the Mark’s listed length is 12.6” vs. 12.3” for my VX. More magnification does not always mean a bigger scope.

As for what to buy, that will definitely be a matter of what you find aesthetically pleasing. The above VX-2 sits on my daughter’s CZ 452 and still looks a bit top heavy due to the objective diameter. In all fairness though, I think most scopes seem a tad bulky until they get to 1-4x size.

Lots of great suggestions above though and I’ll add the Hawke Airmax Compact line to the list. While targeted toward air rifle shooters it focuses down to 10yds and keeps a very compact form even with higher magnification models.

I like the Weaver side focus scopes, They will dial down to ten yards, but they are disappearing fast as they are going out of production.

Zeiss Conquest 3-9 mc, light and formated for 50 yard paralax, German vibes :)

Ya know I was looking up some of the Zeiss scopes and found that Meopta made the old Conquest MCs and they're selling them as their Meopro line now. I was looking at a 4.5-14x44

I'm actually starting to rethink my plans of this being a do-everything gun. I keep forgetting it's a 54 action. It's heavy. Empty this thing is 7 lbs 15 oz. By the time I put rings and bases and a scope, it'll be close to if not at 10 lbs. That's not something I'm going to want to shoot offhand very much. I may be better off getting a little bit higher power heavier optic for this one and for my offhand use pick up a lighter weight 64 series and put a 2-7 or 3-9 power on it and keep that one nice and lightweight.

The MeoPro line is different than the Conquest. The Conquest and the Cabela’s Euro Instinct are the same scope.
