So what if i sold a gun to someone FTF and the gun was registered under my name, then what? Do i have to call someone or some place to let them know i sold my gun to this particular person?

OR

if i bought a gun registered under someone's name...

Depends on -

where you live/state law
type of gun (handgun/long gun)
what you mean by "registered"

For the most part, long guns are not registered, and private paty transfers are legal. Some states require handguns to be ransferred through FFLs. Some states actually register hand guns.

What state are you in? What registration is done in your local?

If your firearm is actually registered, then I would suggest you look at the state and local requirements for transfers and abide by all applicable Federal Laws.

i'm from WI. I have been wondering and gonna ask the gun dealers too. When i bought my guns and did all those paper work, were my guns registered automatically?

thanks for clearing this up for me guys... a couple mins asking beats a couple years anyday of the week..

Talk to your local government.

Federal law has no requirement for you to register the transfer of the weapon (unless it's a class III) to or from you.

Now regarding your state's laws, you need to find the state legislature's website and read through the laws and/or give them a call and talk to somebody.
