At one point in time he was actually a member of the House of Reprehensibles.

His one claim to fame, AFAIK, was a bill to ban "pocket rockets". <spit>

I bought my CZ-100 (officially a "pocket rocket", per HCI), and timed it to pick it up the same day Rod Bolshevik started his new job.

the state GOP is a castrated RINO club that has not yet recovered from a major F'up with the last corrupt Republican Guv and can't find, let alone run, a viable candidate for any major state position. and Downstate IL is a mix of agriculture and economically depressed, blue-collar union folks who were successfully milked by the Dems last election.

That's about the size of it.

Alan, It's not that simple. Here in Illinois the Democrats claim Chicago. the state GOP is a castrated RINO club that has not yet recovered from a major F'up with the last corrupt Republican Guv and can't find, let alone run, a viable candidate for any major state position. and Downstate IL is a mix of agriculture and economically depressed, blue-collar union folks who were successfully milked by the Dems last election.
There is more than this but I tried for the thumbnail version.

If you so state, O.K., however I do wonder as to at least one thing. Re your description of "down state", how come these people allow a questionable bunch like Cook County Democrats come around and "squeeze their titties"?

because, unfortunately, Schitcago has extended it's reach to the St.Louis Metro East area (read - East St.Louis). The giant cess pool welfare state that it is.

Chicago is basicly run by mayor Daley the gun hater. The governor doesn't even live in the capital, commutes from Chicago where his wife wants to live to be near her father, a democratic ward boss named Dick Mell. Somr how Daley has this whole area locked in to where the republicans that are elected are pretty much RINO's. The only thing that saves us from them is the downstate Democrats who are very gun friendly. In my area, Vermilion County, it is a fairly strong Democratic area because of the unions. A lot of the people I know personally only listen to the union when voting and nothing will change their minds. These people don't even look past the first page of the ballot where you can vote for all Democratic canidates with one punch. I have a good friend who owns guns, not someone that shoots and enjoys them, but keeps them for self defense and believes in gun ownership. He is also a retired UAW member that still tells me that Blago doesn't want to take away my guns. It is like they have been so conditioned by unions that Democrat is the way they will not see or admit there is anything else good in this world. I am not, for the record, a union hater and have been a member of three different unions including the UAW for about 25 years of my working life. Jim.

Voting straight ticket without knowing candidates or issues is a serious problem in this country. My sister in law, for example, is a dissertation away from a PhD, 57 years old, and wouldn't think of voting anything but straight ticket (Democrat) or giving any other candidate an ounce of credit. Despite awesome academic ability, I can't give her much credit for being intelligent beyond a specialty. That kind of political bigotry, voter ignorance actually, may be our downfall. It's simply a family tradition to vote that way, and there is no perceived need to get and remain informed on the facts. Stick to prejudice and stereotypes and all will be right with the world.

sctman800:

In the case of the friend that you described, one wonders as to what it might be that he is perhaps sticking into his arm, nose or other "bodily injection point"?

RealGun:

None of my business, but since you mentioned it, I wonder as to what your sisters doctorate, assuming she completes the requirements for it, might be in. Also, one wonders as to whether the old translation for PhD, Piled Higher and Deeper, still applies.

I am not sure it would be relevant, but her expertise certainly isn't political science.

Her husband, my brother, is a PhD and so is my father. Both are conservative and like their guns, so I wouldn't be inclined to speak poorly of PhDs in general. It's conceivable that I should have been an academic too but had no desire to stay in school that long.
