My State, Kentucky is one of the most Pro Gun States in the U.S. We also have a training requirement. Our cost for the training is around $75-$80 and it consists of a film, instruction, written test and range test. This is on top of the $60 Concealed Carry Permit

As someone earlier in the thread said, you've got to start somewhere. If we ever get a Supreme Court that actually reads and honors this should eventually go away same as the "poll taxes" did with voting rights.

Exactly! Sometimes I think we're our own worst enemies. We get handed a victory and then complain that we want more! Believe me, I want constitutional carry throughout the land, but "all or nothing" is not the way to go about it.

I know that bearing arms is a right. So is voting. You know what else, up until recently, not everyone who wanted to could vote. It took time to get there. It's going to be the same way with RKBA. We're getting there, it's just going to take some time.

150 years ago, Black people were unable to vote. 50 years ago, they had to pass a test to vote. Today, it would be unthinkable to prohibit a law abiding citizen from voting. The same will be true of RKBA in the future. But it's going to be a step by step process.

No all that much more than Virginia requirements, and ours are pretty lax.

Hunter safety, military experience, any NRA approved course.

There is no required time, but the law is written to prevent anyone from adding requirements (very much on purpose, some localities judges used 'training' as a reason to deny permits under 'may issue.').

It's a small setback to a major victory. That's still a win. Also, you'll get reciprocity with more states by having a training requirement.

What happens to Open Carry in WI now?

According to an online article dated January 05 2011. There is/was a bill drafted by Rep. Mike Harmon to do away with the permit requirement for Concealed Carry in Kentucky. Not sure if it went anywhere.....

"Harmon has prefiled two bills, including one that would do away with the requirement that gun owners get a permit for concealed carry of their weapons. He said he is drafting the bill because the permitting is unnecessarily costly and is counter to the intent of the Second Amendment."
