The gp 100 has 2 grip sizes offer from the factory (we`re talkin the panel grips) standard grip is large , compact are smaller & panels only interchange with the sp101, the grips do not.
If changing from the now offered hogue grip you`ll need a locator pin , grip , & panels with screw.
Then you`ll have to clean castin flash out the hole it goes into.
Hit the Ruger forums ( there`s 2 .com, .net ) & look at member 41 magnum`s panels.
My girls age 8&10 yrs have no problem shootin 38spl level loads from 4" GP full lug barrel with the compact grips.
As paddling man has described above, only the small and the large GP100 grips will interchange with each other-just as depicted in his pictures above! The even smaller SP101 grips DO NOT fit the GP100-however, the panels from the SP101 will interchange with the panels on the small "Round butted" GP100 grips-but, not the full size standard GP100 grip panels!
Most of the others have it right - the pre-Hogue factory grips are slimmer, and you can usually find them used or at parts catalogs like Brownell's. There are two to choose from, the standard and compact ones. You also have to get the panels and hardware. The panels are different between the two models.
About grip compatibility... GP100 "compact" grips & the SP101 grips share the same wood panels, but the grips themselves are not the same. The GP100 & Super Redhawk can use the same grips, but the standard Redhawk is completely different.
Other slim grips to choose from:
Crimson Trace makes some GP100 grips that use the same wood panels as the old factory grips, but you have to buy the panels elsewhere. I don't know if they include the hardware, either.
Eagle Grips' "Secret Service" wood grips look nice and are very trim. I don't know if they stock them or if they're a custom order.
Some SP101 after market panels will fit the compact(fixed sight) GP100 grips if the panels have been drilled out for the grip locator pin.I actually prefer the small grip on my adjustable sight GP and also have a set on my alaskan 44 mag but it is a handfull with magnum loads.
