Once upon a time, I had a GB Hunter's Axe and a Wildlife Hatchet. I somehow decided I didn't need both and I let a friend talk me out of the hatchet for the $65 I paid for it new. I always regretted selling it and thought to get another, but the price has gone up and up again, they changed the handle shape to one I like a little less, and I just never did get another. Last weekend, he stopped by with the wildlife hatchet, LIGHTLY RUSTED, and I gave him hell about his terrible neglect of a fine hand-forged tool. He just shrugged, said he never really used it anyway and asked me if I wanted to buy it back. same $65 and he threw in 1/2 of his 6 pack.
I cleaned it up and stropped the edge back to shaving sharp.
good as new and home again. it has resumed its rightful place in my hunting pack. I'll probably switch off from time to time with the hunter's axe but the wildlife is one heck of a nice hatchet. Looking at the prices ($100!) and availability on these makes it still a bargain. I'm going to have to sit down some night and make a heavy leather belt sheath for it too.
