Grease Recipe for cap and ball revolver

I have been trying to make up some grease for putting on top of the round ball to prevent multiple discharges as well as for lubing the barrel. I made up a concoction including mutton tallow, beeswax, wonderlube, and Crisco, but it is still to hard. I got one of those large brass syringe type devices to apply the grease to the cylinder, but it is too hard to push out. Should I add some Ballistol, olive oil, water, or some other solution?

I'd just go with pure Crisco if you're applying it with a syringe on top of the ball. Your recipe sounds like it would work well for lube pills or wads.
 
wonderlube alone and used in the syringe for convenience would be an answer for 65-80 degree days. As alemonkey states the rest of the ingredients would make nice hard lube pills. The best thing about the three ingredients you mentioned,beeswax,tallow, crisco, is that the proportions can be varied with the ambient temperature. In other words what mixture proportions works in Maryland in the spring would be too messy in Mississippi.
 
I bet a short piece of average Fast-Food 'Frenchfry' would be a dandy Lube Pill...

I rubbed one once on some really squeaking Throttle Linkage where it passed through the Steel Floor Boards on an old daily-use Truck...and the Linkage was dead silent for two weeks.

Wow! Now we really need someone to invent a Cap & Ball Shooter's "Waxometer" to tell us which lube mix to use according to the latest temperature readings! :D

Remelt some of your too hard mixand add some olive oil to soften it. I had a warm weather mix of 50/50 beeswax (BW) and olive oil (OO) and a cool weather mix of 1:2 BW/OO. I melted a little bit of blue crayon to dye the color sky blue for the cold weather one.
 
i still do things old school fashion: for my 1860 army, i just cut some strips from a yard sale felt hat, drop the strips into some beef fat-bacon drippings, hot in the pan; then cut out wads with a .45 acp case. these go over the powder, under the ball. they work very well.
 
I "cast" my "ingots" of lube by pouring the melted mix into foil linings in a muffin/cupcake mold/tray. After they solidify I fold the foil over the lump and put them into a freezer bag and put them in the fridge or freezer where they keep for a long time. Maybe years.

Junior Geezer, I would recommend you just go buy some lard at the grocery store rather than use the salted up bacon grease from the fry pan. I pick the one pound lard bricks (less than $2/lb) that do not have anything added other than BHT for freshness.

no reason for me not to use beef fat-bacon drippings. this is for BP and so my revolver gets taken down, parts boiled and baked on a cookie sheet right after shooting; then everything is properly oiled and put back together. been doing it this way for 39 years and no rust yet. besides, my dog and i both eat bacon; we don't eat lard.

i do appreciate your input, Hellgate, it being well intentioned.
