Great debunking from Washington Post of opposition to the HPA we can cite

Whooda thunkit!?

Nicely written article. I liked the reference to "The Paperwork Reduction Act" and comparisons to a nightclub or jackhammer.

It is especially valuable to have NYT or WaPo put articles like these out since citing a typically Anti publication lends far more weight with soft anti listeners that a recognized pro 2A organization.

Does "guns/HPA are too small a niche issue to deserve any political attention at the federal level by elected politicians" count as an opposition view?

Been hearing that one a lot lately from people claiming to support the initiative, never mind the fact that tens of millions stand to benefit from freer silencer access, hundreds of millions of dollars in free commerce stands to be generated, and an entire federal Bureau will be unburdened of its most pointless duties (acknowledged by even the assistant deputy director recently in writing).

Oh, or the fact it's the fourth most viewed bill on congress' own website (it's been in the top ten since introduction), Concealed Carry Reciprocity being number seven (and there's also a pair of bills about Alaskan hunting in the top ten). Four of the ten most-viewed bills are gun related, but it's a total niche topic, totally insignificant.

To put this old article/op piece in proper perspective, it must be reminded that this came weeks after a rather embarrassingly one-sided piece on silencers* that basically copied anti-gun reps' assertions verbatim without question. Practically the whole fact-checking world called them out on it, and now weeks after the propaganda has had time to color the debate as best it can we get what is essentially a retraction, though dressed up as "unbiased fact-checking coverage proving how responsible we are" that completely contradicts their own previous article. Still only got three cone-heads, somehow. I saw criticism of the Responsible Solutions peoples' bold-faced lies, but no apologies for mindlessly reprinting them on the front page of the site for several days...

*I believe the headline was literally "Earplugs are Quieter than Silencers" or some variant of that ridiculous tagline the anti's came up with; basically a reprint down to the title of their idiotic press release
