The county, Calhoun County, Texas, has bought Green Lake, with funds from offshore oil royalties to the state (general land office), the US Fish and Wildlife service, and ducks unlimited has something to do with it, I think. Now, Green Lake is part of the Guadalupe River delta area and has always been owned by industry and off limits. However, it is to be developed for recreation to include fishing and DUCK HUNTING! Now, it is adjacent to the already fantastic Guadalupe Delta WMA which I've been hunting since it opened in the mid 80s. This is more fresh water, though, and holds mallards which is WAY cool. :D Ain't just the marsh ducks in there. I'm hoping the county will include an RV park in the mix eventually, but there's other parks around. We're moving up the road 70 miles, but I still like to come down here and visit the kids/grand baby and hunt and fish. This is just that much more wetland I have to hunt. It'll be a good place to kayak fish, too. :D

That's great! Public wetlands hold more than just ducks. I've seen some nice deer while wading through swamps and marshes trying to flush ducks.

Nice. A few years ago I camped at Brazos Bend State Park and watched the Alligators. I also camped near gulf somewhere near that area. I spent a couple weeks at the Naval Air Station with friends at Corpus Christi. nice that there is public land there for you.
