I recently acquired a CZ82 to mess around with...

Nice, serviceable piece for my purposes. I put a 19# recoil spring in it...

It still smacks pretty good though. I'm getting a bit more recoil sensitive these days.

I need a grip sleeve for it, one that will fit up behind that beavertail and provide some kind of dampening action.

Anyone got a suggestion?

I carry mine on Saturdays at the shop, so I try and have it at the range at least twice a month. I go through a box or two of ammo each visit, and it is a fist-full of pistol. I don't use any cushioning, but I do have strips of skateboard tape along the front an back of the grip to help keep the pistol in place. You do clearly know you're firing something, but you do get used to it. Try shooting a few hundred more rounds before you start adding padding.

The CZ82 is one of my oldest 'favorite' handguns (I had two delivered right to my front door when I first got my C&R 03FFL). and have owned about 15 through the years - currently only have three or four remaining.

EVERY time I take one out shooting I am again surprised how 'snappy' the 9x18mm Makarov round feels in it. They are great shooting handguns, but as jonnyc put it so well, "it is a fist-full of pistol". I have often cut a bicycle inner tube to fit over the grip - some careful scissors work can fit it nicely up under the beavertail. The thin rubber tube 'sleeve' can make a big difference in shooting feel. After a range session or two, I take the sleeve off and it is just me and the factory grips again. It is pretty easy to get used to the CZ82. After a while you shoot it so well that the recoil 'snap' seems to go away, even with the hotter Russian LVE ammo.

'Had a couple dozen pictures, but none with a bike tube 'sleeve' installed - I always end up taking them back off. :)

Not sure how I posted a double picture there, but it is a handsome product of Cold War Czechnology!

I suggest trying the DIY bike tube sleeve before you go out and buy a commercial one.

Happy shooting ,,,
