From Texas, I see Sheila Jackson Lee, Al Green, and Lloyd Doggett on there. That tells me all I need to know. :scrutiny:

I think they're getting ready for the Sandy Hook ballyhoo that's going to hit the fan in a couple of weeks...

If they want the universal back ground check, the way to do it is to give everyone access to NICS and make it voluntary with the provision that if you sell to a prohibited person, you go to jail. Make it a personal responsibility thing.

The 2nd "protection" act name is something straight out of 1984 double-speak.

You think THAT'S cheeky, How about Jim Moran and his so-called “NRA Members' Gun Safety Act” - ?!

Thanks for Posting This -

My eyes have been opened. Apparently my Republican Rep is a Republican in Name Only.

Now sort them by political party, and the obvious should become clear... :uhoh:

Never-the-less, all of them will be up for re-election in 2014, and if you live in a district which any of them represent, drop them a letter and tell them that you will remember their endorsement of this bill when you vote for someone else next year.

A heavy mailbag can carry a lot of weight.
Not speaking for the rest of the country, but I'm starting to doubt that as well. I do of course realize that NJ is a bit of a special case. However, this just past election not one of the seats being contended by gun grabbers here in NJ was lost. Meaning that the gun grabbers that were up for re-election ALL WON. None of them lost. All the bally-hoo and belly aching was for naught. It sucks but for the politicians, most of them won't be worried when it comes time to do this again.

That was my question, too. Not sure why it was posted now.

It was posted as a reminder that we don't want to be complacent as we come up on the Newtown anniversiary. We know there is going to be a major gun control push to coincide with it in the press. This is a bad bill that has 185 co-sponsors already in the House. With 33-36 more votes, it could be forced to the floor via a discharge petition. And in some cases, otherwise Representatives who have been good on guns in the past were suckered into jumping on this by Sen. Toomey and have not yet renounced their sponsorship - we should be concerned about them as well.

All in all, I'm optimistic that this bill won't go anywhere; but as the campaign season ramps up and Representatives are asking for money, we should be aware of where they stand and let them know our sentiments.

Yup, and today (Dec 4th, 2013) they are releasing the 911 audiotapes made at the time. Many of them are pathetic so it’s not hard to understand what’s behind the move. Since the authorities have admitted that all of the current proposals, both those already passed into laws – and those that haven’t would have altered the circumstance of the incident it’s clear that they are hoping for support based on pure emotionalism.

So yes, it’s important to keep reminding representatives and senators that we haven’t forgotten either, and will vote to protect our Second Amendment rights. Also suggest they look backwards to what happened in 1994 when a medical system overhaul and firearms rights issue cost the Democrats of control in both the U.S. House and Senate.

Grijalva and Pastor are both open border nutjobs who actively work to destroy Arizona as it exists today to make a Aricalifornia. Barber i don't know much about, but I ain't impressed so far.
The cornerstone of this law, the 600 pound gorilla ion the room that they won't mention, is this, like the other one, will not work without universal registration, which is the ultimate goal. None of my firearms are "registered" here in AZ, private sales are exactly that, and we like it like that. Unlike NY or CZ with total registration, there is, literally no way to "track" lawful transfers in this state without compulsory registration AND investigation of suspected non compliant owners. Ask Canada how well that worked.
That is the goal, the fish hook inside this stinky bait of "benefits" that are impossible to quantify, prove or believe.

Part of the method to their madness is that they really don't care about Universal Background Checks (UBC). All of the proposals that the Democrats have submitted, and/or considered contain a provision that what were private sales must now be brokered through an FFL, and require an entry in they're bound book and a #4473 form that contains detailed information about the seller, buyer and the particular firearm. From that point on they'll be a paper trail.

When someone asks, "Why do you object to background checks," the answer should be, "I don't, what I object to is Universal 4473 forms that can become national gun registration."

Those who think that a program would be set up where the potential seller could simply make a phone call to check the buyer’s credentials are to be frank, naïve.

I think that UBC just happens to be the one measure that got any sort of traction amongst the many that were floated this past year.

In previous years, this was not the main gun control push...but now that Heller has taken handgun bans off the table (which for YEARS was the main gun control push), and since a return to the AWB wasn't going anywhere, UBCs and magazine limits are the route all gun control advocates are hanging their hat on, as if "it is all they've ever really wanted".

If UBCs go nowhere, you can bet that in 1 or 3 or 5 years, there will be a new measure for control freaks to get behind, and they'll be again saying that's "all they've ever wanted".

Next will be the liability insurance for gun owners. Luckily for us so far the insurance companies have been on our side fighting it because they're trying to avoid paying for more of people's negligence/intended harm.

Call me insensitive if you will but: [sarcasm]We all know that if Adam Lanza had been required to go to a gunshop and pass a voluntary BG check before taking possession of the guns he stole from his mom afetr killing her, Newtown would have been prevented.[/sarcasm]

It is no surprise to see David Price's name on this proposed legislation along with
that of Mel Watt. David Price has been my Congressman for almost thirty years
and I've voted against him in every election in which he has run. I am in the
minority in the Raleigh/Durham area, surrounded by urbanites who believe that
Big Brother does a great job of taking care of the people. It's time to send
David Price to a retirement community. Mel Watt gets a F from the NRA but
his job is safe since his district has a large minority population that supports
him. I would love to see him packing his bags and heading home from Washington
D.C. too.

This bill is just another way to keep government eyes on our firearms and
potentially hands too. It needs to be nipped in the bud, as Barney Fife
would say and I will be contacting my Congressman (for all of the good it
is going to do, considering it is David Price)

Exemptions: The bill would exempt transfers of firearms between friends and family from background check requirements.
Only *some* such transfers. Critically, it does *not* seem to allow transfers between domestic partners or significant others unless you are married, which is ridiculous.

One Kentucky Rep. signed onto this and he serves most of Louisville.
Yarmuth has never seen a gun control bill he didn't like, he would gladly sigh a compete total ban without giving it a 2nd thought. My skin crawls every time I hear his voice patting himself on the back.

This! :fire:

I am glad to see that none of the three congressmen from WV are on that list.
