A determined Assembly Appropriations Committee passed out Senator Jack Scott's lethal bill, SB 489 yesterday, August 20, 2003.
The Committee appeared not to have enough votes, held the vote open, hunted down missing members until they had enough votes to pass the bill out. Testimony was limited and cut off, but the bill stayed open until the committee had what it wanted in the way of votes.
SB 489 requires Chamber Load Indicators for all center-fire semiautomatic pistols and Magazine Safety Devices for those with a detachable magazine. This will impact all future manufacturing and purchasing of firearms.

AB 489 has until Sept. 12 to be passed and then go to the Governor for signing.
Contact your Assembly Member and stress a "NO" vote when the bill comes onto the floor of the Assembly. There is no time to procrastinate now. Calls or faxes are encouraged rather than emails and there may not be time for letters.
