Gunbroker jailbait?

Why I don't look through Gunbroker. I would like to think chopping down an Arisaka is illegal in most civilized places.

Why would you think that?o_O
As long as the barrel length remains 16" or more and the OAL 26" or more it's perfectly legal and has been since 1934.
This just in........you can also saw off a shotgun to 18"/26"OAL.

I took his comment as more of a tongue-in-cheek dig at anyone who would cut down a perfectly good rifle like that. I don’t think he meant literally illegal.

Simple: it's a rifle. Provided it's OAL is >26" (and we know it's bbl is >16") it's not an SBR, so it's just a rifle.

Pistol's may not have rifle stocks; the opposite is not the case. Benchrest rail guns, with rifle receivers, >16"/26" dimensions, and no stock whatsoever, are rifles.

You are right. I hereby humbly retract my previous statement.

I thought about that, but not knowing what it looked like before "customization" thats just a wild guess.

. and it current doesn’t have a stock installed on it, it can’t be a rifle no matter how long it is.

If you have one of these that’s not a machinegun, it’s a rifle with a stock on it or just the pistol grip.

If you have a pistol with a stock on it like this.

It’s not an SBR, if it’s a machinegun, same goes for the MAC and M16 with stocks and barrels under 16”.

OAL is what’s going to matter, assuming the barrel is over 16” and it’s likely 26 or better.

If you buy one of these 16” mini actions and put “rifle” on the 4473 before you drop it in a stock, do you have an illegal firearm? If so they couldn’t send it to a regular FFL.

If the dealer put “rifle” on the 4473, that would be incorrect. That’s not a rifle, it’s a receiver.

Like I said, if a firearm has never had a stock, it can’t legally be a rifle.

I would think that given its location there was, in someone’s mind, a perfectly good reason. A native who hunted seals from a kayak, a trapper running lines, to name several. A more compact but still powerful rifle in a handy close range package.

Just playing the devils advocate here.
