We're going to Las Vegas next week for a convention. What is the name and location of the gunshop/range where you can rent a number of different guns including a fully automatic Uzi? Thanks for the help. :)

There are many. Just look it up in the phone book.
The Gun Store is one. Discount Firearms, American Shooters Supply (both locations) are others. There are guys that will rent you machine guns and take you out in the desert to shoot them: including belt fed machine guns.
The Gun Store is on East Tropicana Ave, East of Maryland Parkway. Very roughly, in the area of UNLV. If you were standing at the corner of Las Vegas Blvd x Tropicana (Tropicana Hotel, MGM Hotel, New York/New York Hotel, and Excalibur Hotel) and go East (toward MGM and Tropicana hotels) it will be on your left about 4-5 miles down Trop.

The last time I stopped by the Gun Store for some range time, I was disappointed by the cramped feeling in the shooting lanes (both of them), and the target trolley was manually operated. Nowhere near what I am used to here in the Puget Sound area. Since then, I have been to American Shooter Supply on Arville (nice operation, leggy showgirls practicing...yeah) and Discount Firearms on Highland (I think...I took a trip on the disoriented express to find it in my rear-view mirror). Right, check out the Yellow Pages for indoor ranges.

DON'T GO TO THE GUN STORE!!!!

Horrible service and a horrible range. Unless you like being talked down to and being over charged I would avoid it like the plauge. The best guns store I can suggest is either Discount Firearms (my personal favorite) or American shooters (A far second). Discount Firearms is close to the strip, offers better prices on rentals, and by far has the best range in Las Vegas. Just go here - Discount Firearms - and look at the pictures. By far the best store in Las Vegas. Google Map

Pay a little more and take a half-day or full-day Uzi class at Front Sight. Sure, it's a little off the beaten track (about 45 minutes west), but the course is much more fun than getting to rip a couple of magazines and calling it a day. Call the number on the website (http://www.frontsight.com) for more info. Full disclosure statement: I am a Front Sight member and part of Front Sight's part time instructional staff.

That's a good point.
Renting machine guns is very expensive.
I have taken the two day Uzi class at Frontsight and I thought it was great.

Golly

every thing you guys are saying about the Gun Store is just the opposite of my expierence and I've been there twice now, shot the Thompson and the Greese gun What a hoot!!! if I ever get back to Vegas I am going back.:D ib you go be sure to use the cupon in the "Whats on" magazine. But I must admit the Discount place look's nice too.

While The Gun Store had a great selection of full-autos to rent, like others my experience there was less than stellar. They were rude and I felt rushed. The place was very cramped and expensive as well. When my brother went, he said they were very friendly to him, however. American Shooters on the other hand was very friendly, but the only full-auto I saw was an UMP-40, I am not sure if they have more than that.

Coincidentely, I was at Discount Firearms today. (I am a new shooter, and am trying out different LV ranges to see where I'll be most comfortable for regular practice.)

The staff was very businesslike. The range was very clean, not crowded and best of all, well-lit. (I like both American Shooters locations, but the lighting is so dim at each -- makes it harder for newbies like myself to see the x ring!)

The location of Discount Shooters is a bit tricky to get to if you are not a local. They have explicit directions on their website.

I've not heard anything positive about the Gun Store, but I'll likely be checking it out anyway, 'cause I understand they have a free range day for women once a week. (As I'm finding out -- regular shooting is very fun, but very expensive  !)

Does anyone know anything about the range at the Bass Pro Shop?

I am not a real big fan of indoor ranges but, when it is real hot out I will go a few times a summer. Discount is the only one that I go to. Lighting is a big issue for me also.
As for full auto rentals, Discount doesn't have much hanging on the wall. The one with the most stuff is The Gun Store. I don't know much about the place but I do know the guy that teaches their CCW classes and maintains their machine guns. He is also the match director for our local machine gun matches and is a great guy.

Creeping Incrementalism Sheldon, just for kicks, next time you go there, introduce yourself with, "Hi, I'm from California, do you mind if I touch some hi-caps?"
I wanted to take a look at a FAL magazine (I had never seen one...and they were so inexpensive that I was curious)...The buy behind the counter says "where are you from?" and before I could finish saying California, he had said "sorry" and moved on.

Thanks for the replies everyone. Looks like Discount Firearms will be getting the visit. We get in on Monday, and have tickets to the new Cirque show "Love" for Monday night, and for Louie Anderson on Wed. That really just leaves Tuesday eve for a range trip...I'm in lectures all day Tuesday -Thursday, and we fly back EARLY on Friday. So once again thanks for the advice!

I was at the Gun Store last weekend and I will say the employees are ---holes.

I wanted to look at an M1 to test it's heft and feel on me before I get one, and the guy behind the counter asked if I were a resident of Nevada or California, and when I said California, he said I couldn't touch it because of the crazy California Laws.

I know that I can't by a hi-cap magazine or illegal rifle, but I don't know of any laws that would limit my ability to touch a surplus M1.

Oh, and they are kind of pricey.

One advantage of going to The Gun Store is being able to stop by the Crown & Anchor on your way back to the 'Strip' for a cold British (or other nationality) beverage. It's an island of cool and quiet in the heat and bustle of Las Vegas. It's on East Tropicana, just east of the Maryland Parkway on the North side of the street (you can see it from the intersection at E. Tropicana and Maryland Pkwy). Something to consider for settling the dusty throat that comes with some range time.

I was going to bring that up but couldn't remember the name (I only live here). Probably memory loss from too much Guniess.

Good to hear you will be hitting up Discount, I do everything in my power to keep business away from The Gun Store. It may be tricky getting there, but it's worth it too.

And on the note of Crown and Anchor, I second that. Great beer...

Yep, I too am not a fan of the "Gun Store". Dropped in there once, to look for a certain book, and the salesguy I asked just ignored me, wanting to wait on the tourist trade I guess. I saw the book, but wasnt going to buy it there, after dealing with their "hired help".

One thing also, there at the "Gun Store", if you use the range, even with your own weapon, you "have to use their ammo", which is frangible issue. Just something else to gouge the $$$ out of you. :fire:

It's either Discount or either American Shooters for me. The lady shooter asked a question about the range at Bass Pro shop. I never heard of it. Been there many times, as as yet havent heard a "pop/bang/zing" out from behind the counter. So, if they have one, it is a secret I havent been privilage yet to be told. Only range I know of at BPS is the Archery range.
