Just picked up a deal of 1000 of these bullets made by Denver Bullets. These have been in storage for a long time based on the newspaper stuffed in the box.!! I love pawn shops:D

Anyway from what I have read these are a great target bullet for the 45.

I usually use flat nose or RN, so SWC in the 1911 used to give me fits!!

I have Lyman Cast and several powders but the COL is what always killed my interest in SWC feeding problems.

Yes I do the plunk a dunk test.

Just leave a hair of the driving band showing?? Around 1.250 ??

What load and COL do you use? Which bullet is it closest to in the lyman cast the 452460 or the 452630??

5" DW 1911

Thanks

The #452630 is much closer to the #68.

But not exact, besides being a bevel base bullet, the ogive is slightly different too.

RCBS mold 45-201-SWC is pretty close, but not quite.

Pay no attention to measured OAL.

Just seat SWC so you have about a dimes thickness of the front band out of the case.

The H&G #68 nose profile comes very close to the same place as 230 GI ball, and they will feed in about anything because they hit the feed ramp and top of the chamber just about the same place as FMJRN.

SWC feeding problems are fixed by chamfering the feed ramp about half way up the sides with a fine file. NO ROTARY TOOLS. Usually already done on newer pistols.
Same OAL as any 200 grain bullet.

Had to seat them with less than a (dime) showing on the driving band. They would not plunk into my barrel. It came out to my predicted 1.250 or a tad less.

I think you'll love the #68 H&G.

Bullseye is great for them, in all my 1911(s).

Yep, pretty much all I use in the 45 sometimes HP 38.

What COL do you end up with??

As I mentioned, years ago I had some 185 SWC and they gave me fits trying to get them to feed in several 45's I finally found the magic length but it was such a pain I gave up on them and just loaded ball or FN. I wanted ammo that would feed in my 1911s and any other one (non 1911) I wanted to shoot

Hg 68

Great bullet. I get col of 1.250"
Taper crimp at .469"
Light loads of Bullseye and WST both do very well for me.
I do have a reduced spring installed, I think its 16#, I'll check and get back to you

There is no feed ramp on the slide.

And altering the frame ramp with a file is a singularly bad idea unless it's out of spec and you're working to bring it in...and that requires a mill and a precise setup on the angle.

OAL is not so much the driving dimension, rather, it's the shoulder left exposed.

MOST important is to taper crimp the mouth back to dimension shown.
Therein lies the greatest single failure point for the"plunk" test

Thank you, that there is some good info!:)

I like pictures especially good ones

The test ones I loaded are a bit deeper they will manually feed but there is not test like actually shooting them, I will report back

Thanks again
