As of this post, no bill text received by Congress.gov yet but here's the title: H.R.4268 - To amend title 18, United States Code, to provide for a 7-day waiting period before a semiautomatic firearm, a silencer, armor piercing ammunition, or a large capacity ammunition magazine may be transferred.

I'm sure it will be a Sheila Jackson masterpiece.

Another dead on arrival piece of legislation that over reaches intentionally instead of tries to provide aNY thing that has a chance of getting out of committee.

Point out to your elected officials that anything that includes a magazine waiting period is just posturing for the midterms and not a serious effort.

Well, the inclusion of silencers in this is moot unless the Hearing Protection Act passes.

As for rest of the items, the main effect would be to prevent their sale at gun shows. That means that most gun shows, as we know them, would be converted to antique and collector shows, with lots of beef jerky and other non-germane items thrown in. This would also be a boost for store-front FFL dealers.

You mean they aren't already? All the ones I go to are.....
Another 'feel- good- that- we- are- doing- something- while- actually- accomplishing- nothing' bill.

I think it's interesting when things like "silencers" and armor piercing rounds are included in things like this. I can't decide whether it's entertaining or depressing. Either they are completely clueless, or are just posturing to an uneducated voter base.

Wait time on a suppressor is already a year, so what's another week? Heck, let me buy a suppressor on a 4473 and I would gladly wait a week.

Armor piercing restrictions? Seriously? Unless you start redefining common ammo as armor piercing (7n6 and the attempt at M855), there isn't really that much out there. It's all highly collectible, which makes it unsuitable for crime.

This bill is also internally inconsistent. In the findings section, it notes that:
(8) Gun death rates are generally lower in States with restrictions such as safe storage requirements or assault weapons bans.

I don't believe that's correct, but why not propose those instead of a waiting period?

We know this is going nowhere and we're kinda wandering because of it so we'll retire this and look forward to having some solutions for combating the grabbers.
