I have a H&R Model 922 Serial M61231, where the firing pin will not make contact. When I pull the trigger the hammer is about 1/8-1/16" short of making contact. When I depress the sear the hammer will close that gap but the pulling of the trigger does not depress the sear to make that contact. I see there are two types of sears for this model, one with a flat face and one with a rounded face that contacts the trigger. The one I have on the 922 is a flat faced sear... is it broken?

Is it a bad sear? Sear spring? Trigger? Any ideas?

Check YouTube for a disassembly video and I'm betting the problem will become apparent pretty quickly. This will also give you an idea if this is something you want to tackle yourself or have a qualified gunsmith look at. Sear engagement often needs to be properly adjusted and is not usually a "drop-in" type repair.

Check the hammer strut and make sure it is installed correctly. If it is not, the hammer will not move forward to fire the round.

I had a similar problem on one I used to have. Swapped the mainspring assembly and strut for a metal base versus the original plastic one. Worked fine afterwards.
