Hi guys. I'm new to the forum. Been reading as a guest for a while but just joined. I have just started out as a gunsmith and have no problem saying I have alot to learn but hey thats the fun of this profession. Anywho, the reason I;m writing is to ask about the H&R trapper model. A friend of mine brought me one in a ziplock bag completely took apart with parts broken and missing.
My question is more about finding parts and a schematic.

I know that the gun isn't worth alot but he wants it fixed and I can't for the life of me find a parts list and schematic for this gun. Right now I can't even manage to figure out what all the parts that I have do. I can get the gun back together for the most part but without the broken springs useless.

Any help would really help my out.

I can find the history of the gun ,pic.s, articils, and even trapper models for sale but still nothing as far as schematics or a parts list let alone parts. I have thought of buying another gun just to take it apart to see how all the parts go back together and be able to figure out what is missing in the gun that I have.

Nothing will drive me as crazy as getting a gun that comes in, in a ziplock bag. This makes the third that I have gotten this way. The other two were not to bad, but parts and schematic were avail. and that makes a big differents.

If anyone has any experience with this gun and could give me a heads up on how this thing goes back together and where to get parts you would be my hero...lol...

Thanks guys
DJ

FYI the H&R simgle shot shotgun/Handi Rifle are all from the same basic design that is over 100 years old. The two differences in the design is the way the lock opens. Older ones had a lever you twisted sideways on the top and the newer ones have a plunger you push down next to the hammer. I have several of these and the parts are basically the same. The newest series is the Pardner from H&R 1871. I will see if I can find a blowup for you. Brownells.com has the blowup of the Topper shotgun. It is the web quick find schematic #677 at brownells.com. It should be almost identical to yours. IMHO you can get the current Brownells catalog for a small fee and it is worth it for the info within rather than do it all on the web. If you buy something from them after the book you even get the money paid for it credited back on your first order. Call 1-800-741-0015. The NRA guidebook to shoulder arms shows a lot of blowups of various firearms and the gun digest book of exploded gun drawings is an excellent resource also. I am sure there are other books\sites out there but these are the ones that have helped me the most over the years.

If your friends H&R trapper is the 22 pistol, I have a break down of the gun and a parts lists I can scan.

Sorry guys, I should have gave more details. It's the 7 shot pistol. Powell&hyde's right on the money. I would love to see the break down and parts list on this gun. Thats what I've been trying to find for weeks now. If you want you can send them to my e-mail [email protected] it would help me out alot on this project.

The million dallor question now is are there parts availible for it?

Powell&hyde thanks again for your help, and guys thanks for the input.

Thank you Powell&hyde after seeing the parts list I now know what is missing and I think I will have no trouble making the two springs and the sear for this gun. If you had not shown me this parts list I may not have ever figured it out.
