It's 4 AM here.

I woke up a few minutes ago terrified and distraught.

I don't remember all the details, but I know I woke up screaming, "WHY?!!! WHY?!!! WHY OH WHY HAS GLOCK NOT COME OUT WITH A CARBINE?!!!!!!!!"

So here I am wide awake now at 4 AM. All thanks to Glock.

Or maybe it's thanks to having a full bladder and I had to get up at 4:30 AM anyways today so I just woke up a little early.

Seriously though, why no carbine? If I'm not mistaken, they are the only company that has no rifle offering still. I've been told multiple times that Glock just wants to stay in the handgun business and do what they do best, but let's face it - Glock has been essentially making the same gun and variations of it for the last 36 years. They are no longer the big boy in town with polymer pistols, competing with Springfield Armory, Smith & Wesson, Kahr, HK, Sig, and a huge number of other manufacturers of polymer pistols. Even as a self admitting Glock fanboy here I've said multiple times that a pistol caliber carbine that is innovative and uses Glock mags would be a great idea and a way to branch out the company's offerings. In 36 years, some of the biggest changes in their products have been the addition of finger grooves on pistols, and recently the slightly new texture and serrations design on the RTF Glock 22. I realize that there are PCCs that use Glock mags, but I really think Glock has a great opportunity to hype this type of product considering the years of anticipation, albeit mostly joking anticipation like mine.

Of course, PCCs are somewhat of a dying breed, so maybe that plays a factor (and that's the response I've received in the past when I or others have asked this question), but I bet that if Glock built a carbine, fans like myself would buy it. I'm thinking something between a P90 and CX4 Storm looks wise that did something crazy impossible, like was able to switch to any caliber Glock supports with the change of a barrel and magazine.

Anyways, just venting. No, I didn't really wake up with a nightmare. I woke up to pee. I just was thinking once again about the possibility of a Glock carbine on the toilet while I read through the most recent issue of Guns & Ammo.

ETA: If you want to be technical, I suppose Kahr also makes handguns solely, but they also own Thomspon/Auto-Ordnance which does make rifles. I can't really think of another company that solely makes handguns. Every other company I think of has come out with a rifle in some way or another, and on top of that, hasn't manufactured essentially the same gun, and only the same gun, for 36 years. It's impressive that Glock has survived doing that, and I understand how - I personally own 6 Glock pistols and close to 100 Glock magazines total. They've gotten plenty of my money along with other THR members. Still though, at some point they have to add a little spice to their recipe(s) or people will reject their "food" as being bland.

Sign me up for a Glock carbine. I've thought about it long and hard and I've decided that I think they should NOT base it off of their pistol. I don't care if the magwell is in the grip, in front of the trigger, or if they do a bullpup, but I'd like to see something that is as reliable as their pistols, but utilizing a design which is capable of going somewhere (i.e. intermediate rifle chamberings, accessorizing, optics ready, etc.)

If it's gonna be a pistol caliber, I'd be down for a 9mm (and 10mm :)) bullpup. Make the barrel as long as it needs to be. Everybody knows it would be the type of rifle that you just HAVE to SBR anyway. ;)

Here's your interm "Glock carbine", until Glock makes one. :neener:

Not till September. I turned down last year's offers to reapply to a different (higher ranked) set of schools.

Looked at both it and the Keltec Sub2000. If I want an AR, I'll go with an AR. The Sub2000 is more around the lines of what a Glock carbine should be like..... but I agree with Kind of Blued. It should be a true bullpup, very ergonomically designed (unlike the Sub2000), innovative (like my caliber switching idea), as reliable as their pistols, and taking Glock pistol mags of all sizes (like the Olympic Arms Glock PCC).

Also, it would be nice if it had a quad rail system with the flat-top rail running the length of the weapon. Think FS2000 with quad rail and full length top rail and that takes Glock mags. All polymer exterior, piston based action, etc.

Oh, and being ambidextrous accessible would be great too.

I thought they did?
Only M1a's, i don't think anyone makes new garands. No way they could compete with CMPs pricing...

As for a glock carbine, i would love to see one too, but it would be so UGLY! I am thinking a boxy hi-point carbine or something...

I really don't see Glock or any other company building another "evil black carbine" given the current political climate, or more accurately stated the perceived political climate. :scrutiny:

The Glock has a truly love them or hate them reputation, I know many people who still think that they are the greatest thing since sliced bread but just as many who can't stand them and would't own one if it were given to them. I have never been a fan, not because they aren't reliable and capable weapons, they are! I just never carred for the feel (like something out of the toy dept.) and I find them just plain ugly.:neener:

My nightmare is that Glock "did" build a carbine because it would most likely be ugly, over priced, and they would make twentyfive models of the same gun like they have done with the pistols. :barf:

My dream would be that Hi Point would build thier carbines to accept Glock magazines, then we would have a reliable and affordable high capacity carbine, especialy when fitted to the ATI, Berretta clone stock. :D

I am sure that all you Glock fans will want my head on a stick for this, but I am just throwing out my opinion, it's all I have left.

This is this! It's not something else, it's this!

Don't pull it if you don't plan to use it, and don't use it if you don't plan to kill!

ALWAYS REMEMBER OUR MEN AND WOMEN OVER THERE.

I don't think the gun industry is going to let themselves be bullied into a corner. I could be wrong. We'll see.

What would be great, is if the gun industry responded to pressure the way Barret and STI has.

I can't wait - if history is any indication, it should point towards the sun when using a natural aiming hold, & use sights, mags & guide rods so crappy that HiPoint would blush, yet cost 3-4 times as much!

Those birds & dragonflies had better watch their six! :p

What about that ridiculous Glock-holder for shooting around corners? that could qualify as a Glock carbine.

I'd like to see Springfield make an M1 Carbine in .460S&W

/if i had a machine shop and the know-how i'd get going on it myself.

Glock should focus on making a handgun that is more than barely passable before switching to anything more complicated.

A Springfield AR15 would be a sweet thing, though. Unlike Glock, they have the pistol thing down pat.

I happen to believe that many manufacturers (probably not Glock) have a few of their machinists tinkering with additional lines of product like AR15s. I wouldn't be surprised if companies possibly like Springfield Armory, Kimber, Taurus, CZ, Savage etc. have chiseled out a few AR15s just to explore the cost to quality ratio that they could achieve. I just wish a bunch of them would take the plunge.

What would be weird is a Winchester AR15. Browning Mk 14. Cricket H-Bar.:D
