I've decided I need a hammer fired, double stack 45 ACP.

What's out there besides the RIA/Armscor, and used Para-Ordnance?

I can't find any of the new Remington double stacks available.

HK45/USP will fit your requirements. The double stack Paras (Black Ops etc) went to Remington, and you have already found out they are hard to find. Springfield is supposedly releasing the XD-E in 45 as well. FNX-45 is another good choice too.

I forgot about the fn 45t. The triggers on my HK and FN external hammer guns leave a little to be desired in DA. Certainly no 1911 in SA neither, not even bad 1911. Very reliable and good guns though.

I'm a big fan of the CZ 97 B. It's technically a double-stack, but not as high a capacity as some -- holds 10 in the magazine. But that's not why I like it. I like it because it's my favorite 45 ACP to shoot, just suits me very well. And FWIW, it shoots about as soft in my hands as CZs 9mm guns like the 75 B.

I forget which Sig this Astra is a copy of. It looks kind of like my P229. I really like the Sig P229's and 226's. I think that the 45acp model is the P220.

I have always wanted an FNX 45, but man that's a big ol honkin gun.

Love look and feel though....but I do hate the magazine price.

I know lesgaux & I are in the small minority, but I really like the P250. And with one fire control unit, you can dress it as any combination of .45acp, .40s&w, .357sig, or 9mm in full size, compact or subcompact, with grips in each size coming in small, medium & large and any holster or magazine for the P320. Kinda flexible.

But - I admit - it’s no 1911.

I've tried almost all the options listed here and if you don't have STI money, I like the FN45. Lighter than my R1 double stack and still a decent trigger.

Though, my Glock 21 remains my favorite double stack .45 (but my R1 Enhanced is actually really nice too).

Well, a buddy and I went out looking today. I was able to handle most of the listed fireams.

In the end I went with a SA XDM 45 Competition.

I know it's not hammer fired. But I already have 10 mags for it, with a PRP trigger in it they are awesome shooters, and it was only $575 to my door.

I think I'd go down this list
- HK Mark 23
- HK USP
- SIG P227
- FN FNX
The Px4 and CZ97 are fine guns, buuuut I don't really trust them. Their 9mm originals are phenomenal, but something was lost when they were morphed for .45.

P.S. I have one of those .45 XDm and they are pretty good. The only thing I hate about it is that the magazines rattle. This always happens to .45 double-stack magazines where cartridges are allowed to touch in each column. The designers choose it in order to reduce the friction between cartridges and magazine bodies. It also maximizes the theoretical capacity, leaving nothing on the table. Works great in 9mm because of a little taper, but .45 is straight wall.

I have read and heard from close friends that H&K customer service is not very friendly nor reliable. I have never had one but saying what I have heard from several friends. Plus I think we all know that Sig has gone way down in quality control.
