How, step by step, are cyliders fitted to S&W revolvers? I am considering adding a S&W 325 ti cylinder to a 625. Any article links or book suggestions are appreciated.

In revolvers you have to start out with a cylinder and ejector ASSEMBLY. That is, a cylinder that's had an ejector fitted to it.
S&W, like most gun companies will not sell a new assembly. For safety reasons, they will factory fit new assemblies.

To fit the cylinder to the frame is a MAJOR operation, with a lot of adjustments and checks that have to be made.
Note that cylinders and ejectors will rarely properly fit another gun, since they've already BEEN fitted to a different frame.

Among the fitting/adjustments/checks are:
Head space.
Barrel/cylinder gap.
Barrel/chamber alignment.
Timing.
End shake.

The Kuhnhausen book goes into some detail about how to fit a new cylinder assembly the RIGHT way.
Don't do it the right way, and the gun will range from inaccurate to unsafe to fire.

Thanks, Kuhnhausen manual goes on the grocery list, I've been eyeballing it anyway. Sounds like you will almost always start with a new cylinder assembly for a project like this. I assumed I would have to seek out a quality gunsmith. Nickels.

Good luck.
But I have seen no indication that S&W will even sell you an unfitted Ti cylinder.

You might want to give them a call and find out before you get too far into it.

Good point. I suppose that's why Randy Lee at Apex makes his own. I'm drinking the Ti Cylinder Kool-Aid, but this may be getting too much $$$$.
