In a well-equipped suburban bunker
By the rude bridge that arched the flood,
Their flag to April's breeze unfurled;
Here once the embattled farmers stood;
And fired the shot heard 'round the world.

If you're not proud and shivery to read and recall that, you're either not an American, or a poorly educated American.

It's a civic holiday in several states, ironically, MA being one of them :banghead:

Today is a good day to peacefully take your service rifles and put a box downrange in tribute, remembrance and practice.

It was my late friend Tom Parker from the IL Pink Pistols who started several of us celebrating this as "Militia Day." It is in his memory I will clean and check all weapons, and get to the range if I can.

And remember the four boxes of freedom: Soap, ballot, jury and cartridge.

you know what, I think thats a great idea.

I haven't been shooting with my dad since I was a little kid. I think I'm gonna give him a call in a little while and take him shooting.

Maybe convince him to buy a new handgun for himself (so I can buy his FN 1910 from him :evil: )

Concord Hymn

Sung at the Completion of the Battle Monument, April 19, 1836

BY the rude bridge that arched the flood,
Their flag to April's breeze unfurled,
Here once the embattled farmers stood,
And fired the shot heard round the world.

The foe long since in silence slept;
Alike the conqueror silent sleeps;
And Time the ruined bridge has swept
Down the dark stream which seaward creeps.

On this green bank, by this soft stream,
We set to-day a votive stone;
That memory may their deed redeem,
When, like our sires, our sons are gone.

Spirit, that made those heroes dare
To die, and leave their children free,
Bid Time and Nature gently spare
The shaft we raise to them and thee.
