Hard chrome AK-47?

Real hard chome like classic is selling them is a very good performing bearing surface for both the internal small parts durability and the external finish. Much unlike the Nickel plated crap WASR's century has, (that wears off when the gun is first fired on all the bearing surfaces) dont get the two mixed up.

About the shine, you could always have it bead blasted with a polymer bead media to get the desired non glaring finish.

Wifey saw those chrome pictures from Classic Arms and really liked them. I'm getting her one and putting plum furniture on it for her birthday.

Look closely at those pics. The AK isn't really well known for its nice finished metal. It seems to me the tooling marks stick out big time. Now if you got one, and smoothed everything out, and then got it plated, it would look much better.

Yugo's don't have much, if any, tooling marks. Not all AK's were made like WASR's.

It's not WASR quality, but I still see tool marks.

Hard Chrome is about the toughest finish you could get. That is why the inside of chambers and barrels are hard-chromed - they last a long, long time!

You could bury your chromed AK in the backyard for a month and then wash it off with the garden hose and it would still be perfect as the day you buried it.

I dont think I could ever fire a hard-chromed AK. It would however, spend a lot of time as a display piece in my house haha.

I'd buy one to take to the range on every trip, then on the day when some guy shows up with his hard chrome DE50, the AK would make it's debut.:neener:

Chrome on an AK is tacky and in very poor taste. Yes, it ultimately will come down to "whatever floats your boat..." but then again, you are also free to lower your car, put chrome rims on it, and wear baggy pants. You'll look ridiculous of course, but as long as you like it.

Mr. Twigg, thanks for the kind words.

That's a Model 29 Classic Hunter, one of 2000 from the second run. The first run was 5000.

Knuckle head that I am, I had a collector's piece hard chromed, but I use it for hunting and back then, who knew these things would get collector's status?

I also ported it and had a ball bearing detente installed on the crane. This in addition to 11 degree bevel for the forcing cone (I shoot lead) and muzzel crown - all done by Larry Kelley of Mag-Na-Port.

I still want my AK, but I am HUGELY envious. That's the closest thing to the perfect hunting pistol that I've ever seen or heard of.

Congratulations, you lucky--

Well, never mind. Nice piece.

Touche'.

My "pimp" AK is a Romy "G" build. I used Gold epoxy paint to finish. It fills in those tool marks really well.

I'm sorry, but it looks like a toy to me. The AK, at least. The Smith posted later looks very nice, though.
