Nederland City Manager Andre Wimer said ``it's been a terribly frustrating four days'' because of problems getting help from the Federal Emergency Management Agency.

``We have been living like cavemen, sleeping in cars, doing bodily functions outside,'' said John Owens, emergency management coordinator for Port Arthur. ``And meanwhile we're the victims, and we have families here.''

``I can appreciate the difficulty in responding to a disaster that was this widespread but at the same time we certainly feel we've not received a level of service that was satisfactory,'' he said.

Except the hurricane in question is Rita and the town in question is in the state of TEXAS!

Apparrently having a republican governor and even being in the president's home state doesn't guarantee decent service......

So cavemen sleep in cars and do bodily functions outside. . . . darn they have it bad.

I have come up with an idea to simplify disaster relief. Anyone living in a federally declared disaster area has the option of waiting for rescue, or receiving $2,000 automatically in their bank account to use to solve their problem.

Anyone who receives the $2,000 waives all "rights" to complain.

I've watched "Barbrabella" with Jane Fonda and I can understand "cavemen" not knowing what to do with a car. If only the govt had taken steps before the storm hit to teach the "cavemen" how to drive - they might have been able to leave.

You mean they didn't have public schools back then. . . GOSH common sense is hard to come by.

Whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah, my _ _ _ _ _ _ hurts!

Some whiner needs a backbone, a gumption injection and a life.

The familiar is still ringing......

I guess poor Texans get the same kind of service from the Fed as poor Cajuns.....

Texans Await Electricity, Water
Thursday, September 29, 2005

WOODVILLE, Texas — Five days after Hurricane Rita came ashore, conditions remained primitive in parts of Texas (search), where some residents were taking baths and brushing their teeth using water from the Neches River and others were sleeping in tents.

The plywood sign outside the home in East Texas where eight Beaumont families had sought refuge from Hurricane Rita carried a simple message: "Help Needed. Ice and Water. 43 People."

The evacuees had no electricity and little water or food after the storm. As temperatures neared triple-digits, adults used paper towels dampened with bottled water to keep children from overheating. A campfire was built to keep mosquitoes away.

"The only thing we could think of to survive was to put out that sign," said Tiffany Moten, 24, who was staying at the home near Livingston (search). "Luckily, we were blessed, and we have a lot of friendly people who came up and brought us water and ice and things like that. We are trying to make it."

The Federal Emergency Management Agency delivered ice, water and packaged meals Wednesday to residents who rode out the storm, but some officials in hard-hit areas criticized the agency's response, with one calling for a commission to examine the emergency response.

This is what big governmet the nanny state gets you everyone sitting around waiting for the gov. to do for you. :banghead: Hey you have to feet walk out. that is what I would do.
Lets see no food no water I guess I will have to just go find something my self.

What I find disturbing is the fact that if in another 5 years we had another Katrina or Rita, the same people who were caught unprepared would probably be found so again.

sniff, sniff

ok i'll quit whining, right after this.
i din't care where FEMA is my only care is where Entergy was.
our electricty went out nearly two hours before the first winds hit and it took seven days to get it back. my only question is why if i never lost phone service did it take so long to get the power back on? dang were is the "whining" smilie?

{whisper}
it's bush........cheney...........halliburton.........rove.........neocons........
.........boooooooooooosh........{/whisper}

Damn you, George Bush and your Jedi Weather-Controlling Powers! How dare Bu$h and Haliburton expect any living in a disaster area to make preparations. That's un-American!

My lawn need aeration! Where's FEMA?
My lawn needs to be edged! Where's FEMA?
The carpet in my living room need to be removed and the wood floors polished! Where's FEMA?
I'm hungry! Where's FEMA?
I have a boo boo on my elbow! Where's FEMA?

I think most of society should be required to stay inside and watch television. They should go out in groups holding the "magic rope" as in pre-school (we can sell it to the liberals as advanced, cradle-to-grave Head Start).

It is not Bush falt it is japan's mafia didn't you hear they have the weather machine built from Soviet tech. It has to be true a weatherman quit his job to investigate it. So a member of the media says its so so it must be so. ;)

Never Fear Centergy to the rescue

So their emergency is not having air conditioning? Don't people realize how recently A/C became common? How did people survive for thousands of years before it?

Somebody seriously needs to call a waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaambulence.

I used to go camping for fun in worse conditions than that. Four days with no electricity, its a wonder I survived much less enjoyed myself.

Obviously, they weren't born in Texas.

If they were, maybe they grew up in Section 8 housing.

Most folks around there would know how to cope. Or adapt.

Regards,
Rabbit.

More proof of the wimpification of America -- "I have gone 4 days without air-conditioning -- how WILL I survive?"
