Has anyone ever seen a very good or excellent Type 53 Mosin?

I realize these rifles were very heavily used, but surely some nice ones have made it into the country. I would like to add one to my small but growing Mosin collection, but don't really want a "beater". Has anyone seen one in good condition lately, and if so, what was the asking price?

jagdpanzer347, I saw a factory 26 Chinese M44 on Gunbroker last night, and it looked to be in very good to excellent shape. Do a search for it and you should find it, there were a few days left.

Hutch, affirmative on the Chinese type53. Grimjaw, appreciate the head's up. I saw that one this morning, actually. If no one has seen a nice one, what do the beaters go for in your area?

just for info, my first Mosin was a 53. A friend I and bought 5 of them for $100. They were in God awful shape,(sheetmetal and rivits held the forearm together on one of them) looked like they had lain in the jungle til we made our order. Were still fun to shoot though.

I sold a number of Type 53 rifles when I was running my own shop.
The majority of them came from Navy Arms and they ran from very good to fair external condition.
The Chinese did not apparently practice good bore cleaning procedures and probably still don't since all there stuff now come fully equipped with chrome lined bores.
I cannot recollect even one of these rifles that had a bore better than sewer pipe in appearance.

My father inlaw was a career Army officer who at the end of Vietnam was presented with a chromed Type 59 with a small plaque mounted to the buttstock.

It is still in the family and I have had the chance to handle it.

Not for sale though.
