Has anyone had any experience with the Pachmayr Compac grips?

I run them on my vintage Charter Undercover. Wonderful recoil control and feel, but they're on the big side. I still find them compatible with IWB carry and if you're doing fanny pack or (man?)purse carry you won't notice the size.

Not too good for CCW, particularly pocket carry, but they sure make a difference in felt recoil with hot loads.

Some people don't like rubber grips for CCW because your shirt or coat tends to hang up on the "sticky" grips, and may cause "printing".

Many of us do like rubber grips because of the unequaled grip they give, wet or sweaty, hot or cold.
The idea of a grip is to provide a firm, no-slip grip on the gun, and rubber grips are the best at that.

The Pachmayr Compac or Professional Compac with the open backstrap are some of the best CCW grips ever made, if you don't have problems with your clothes hanging on the soft rubber.
They are about as small as a "combat" grip can be.

Best grips for recoil control with small revolvers. I carried a Model 60 with Pachmayrs in rear, side, and chest pockets. The gun rode comfortably and was easy to draw.

They're comfy, but they're also big and very heavy. If you're after minimum weight, stick with the stock grips.

The Compac grips are larger than boot grips and cover the backstrap. The Compac Pro grips are the same as the Compac grips except the backstrap is left exposed. Like said above, rubber tends to cause problems when carrying concealed. If you are looking for something a little larger than a boot grip in wood Badger makes a nice wooden stocks for the J frame revolver. They are on the top of This page. (top line are a little larger than the boot stocks on the second line)

Great Grips, But......

I have them on my 640. Makes shooting .357 rounds bearable. A little on the larger side, as prior poster indicated. As far as pocket carry, you won't be happy pocket carrying the 640 anyway, even if these grips would fit in your pocket. Its about 24 or 25 oz loaded. The 640 is best carried on the belt, IWB or OWB. Personally, I'm switching over to a set of laser grips. The sights on the j frames are nearly impossible to deal with.

Yep, on Rossis primarily, on of the few grip options for Rossi, and they work well for filling the hand and remaining compact. I prefer a boot grip for pocket carry, but IWB, the Compac works great and it is a lot more pleasant to shoot a magnum with than any boot grip. I still have a set on my Rossi M511 .22 kit gun.

I don't mind pocket carrying a 25 oz gun. I have a sturdy belt. I like the weight of a fine pistol anyways, it gives it some soul ;)
